Bellator 299 Betting Preview: Charlie Ward vs. Gregory Babene
September 23, 2023
In Bellator 299, bettors have plentiful amounts of rights to choose from in the preliminary card. One battle that you should check out is the middleweight bout between Charlie Ward and Gregory Babene.
Date: Saturday, September 23
Venue: 3 Arena in Dublin, Ireland
Prelims: 11:00 AM ET
Main card: 4:00 PM ET
Coverage: Showtime
Charlie Ward Betting Preview
Ward has not won a fight over his last two attempts. His recent defeat was a unanimous decision to Mike Shipman in Bellator 291 back in February of this year.
With 10 wins on his fighting resume, they are composed of six knockouts and four decisions. So far, three of his 10 wins have ended in the first round and three losses each by knockout and decision.
“Relentless” got a shot at the UFC early in his career, but failed to land a win after two attempts. After that, he joined Bellator and has gone 7-3 since then. A few of these battles were against quality fighters with established resumes.
Through his successes, he has earned the 118
th
spot in global rankings for the best middleweight fighter. Now he has another tough matchup and one that would give his career a nice bump.
Gregory Babene Betting Preview
Babene is currently on a seven-fight win streak coming into this event. Interestingly enough, his recent win was against Mike Shipmen back at Bellator 280 in May of last year and defeated him by a first round knockout.
He has established 22 wins thus far, with seven knockouts, 12 submissions, two decisions, and one by “other”. He has 17 wins resulting in first round finishes and he has six defeats coming by submission.
“Blade” has turned his fighting experience into a respectable career. A decade ago, he had been through many ups and downs, especially when he tried to win in KSW (0-2).
He has gone 4-0 in Bellator and has a great chance to extend his win streak. He is also ranked as the 80
th
best middleweight fighter in the world, so he is aiming to improve here.
Game Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick
MyBookie's most recent odds emphasize Gregory Babene as a formidable contender primed for success in this bout. If you are contemplating wagering on Babene for a win, including him in a multi-fight parlay might enhance your chances of a larger payout.
Charlie Ward: +230
Gregory Babene: -270
Ward is in a losing skid that he cannot seem to get out of, which means he does not have the best momentum here to carry out the win. Babene has been great and seems to have his fighting instincts on the right track. Look for Babene to potentially win by knockout here.
Spooky Express Pick: Take Gregory Babene to Win at -270
