Bellator 299 Betting Preview: Daniel Weichel vs. Mads Burnell
September 23, 2023
Bellator 299 lays the groundwork for thrilling main card confrontations, showcasing featherweight rivals Daniel Weichel and Mads Burnell. Will Burnell continue his winning streak, or can Weichel make a triumphant return?
Date: Saturday, September 23
Venue: 3 Arena in Dublin, Ireland
Prelims: 11:00 AM ET
Main card: 4:00 PM ET
Coverage: Showtime
Daniel Weichel Betting Preview
Weichel is returning to the octagon after his last battle in November of last year. This was a unanimous decision defeat against Timur Khizriev back at Bellator 288.
Out of his impressive record of 42 wins, he has achieved victory in six bouts with knockout power, locked in 22 via submission, and earned the other 14 through judges' decisions. Remarkably, 21 of his 42 victories have concluded within the first round, while he has only suffered six decision losses out of his 14 defeats.
“Drake” has put up impressive numbers over the course of his long career. He has bounced around various fighting leagues, but has found home with Bellator where he has gone 11-6 in the promotion.
He is currently holding down the 81
st
spot in worldwide rankings for the best featherweight fighter. He has an opportunity to get back on track against a respectable opponent and improve his rank.
Mads Burnell Betting Preview
Burnell has gone 1-2 in his last three battles, but he was able to break his two-fight skid with a recent win. This victory was a unanimous decision over Justin Gonzales back at Bellator 295 in April of this year.
Examining his track record of 17 victories, he has secured one win via knockout, clinched nine through submissions, and emerged victorious in seven by decision. Impressively, eight of his wins culminated in first-round finishes and two losses each have come by decision and submission.
He had a failed run in the UFC (1-2) before trying his shot at Bellator. He is currently at 4-2 since joining back in 2020 and now faces a MMA veteran.
His ranking worldwide is currently at 62
nd
for the best featherweight. A win against a veteran would definitely give his resume a boost and improve his ranking.
Game Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick
MyBookie introduces their odds for this thrilling showdown, portraying Mads Burnell as a solid favorite for victory in this bout. Those who enjoy betting may consider adding Burnell to a combination bet such as a parlay for boosted odds, particularly given his strong favoritism.
Daniel Weichel: +200
Mads Burnell: -260
Weichel no doubt has earned respect for the amount of quality battles he has participated in. However, at 38, he is arguably on a decline in what he offers to MMA.
Over his last 10 fights, he has gone 5-5. Look for Burnell to claim a quality win by decision.
Spooky Express Pick: Take Mads Burnell to Win at -260
