Bellator 299 Betting Preview: Johnny Eblen vs. Fabian Edwards
September 23, 2023
Bellator 299 showcases an excellent main event showdown between current middleweight champion Johnny Eblen and top ranked challenger Fabian Edwards. Can Eblen prove he can hang onto the belt against a top contender in the division?
Date: Saturday, September 23
Venue: 3 Arena in Dublin, Ireland
Prelims: 11:00 AM ET
Main card: 4:00 PM ET
Coverage: Showtime
Johnny Eblen Betting Preview
Eblen is undefeated through 13 fights so far in his career. His recent success was at Bellator 290 when he defeated Anatoly Tokov by unanimous decision in February earlier this year.
Out of his 13 wins, five of them have been knockouts, he has one submission, and the other seven are by decision. Six of his 13 victories have resulted in first round finishes.
“Diamond Hands” has quality battles everywhere he has been. He went 4-0 in Shamrock Fighting Championships and then currently 9-0 through Bellator.
He is currently ranked as the 19
th
best middleweight fighter in the world and the 72
nd
best overall pound for pound fighter in the world. A win here would give his resume a boost and showcase his ability.
Fabian Edwards Betting Preview
Edwards has won his last three battles prior to this upcoming bout. In his last fight, he defeated Gegard Mousasi by unanimous decision at Bellator 296 in May of this year.
Looking at his 12 wins, he has four knockouts, three submissions, and five decisions. He has six wins resulting in first round finishes and both of his defeats have come by decision.
“The Assassin” just recently had his best win against Mousasi, which propelled his Bellator record to 8-2. His best results collectively have been in Bellator, where solid opposition has been consistently battled against. Prior to that, he went 4-0 in BAMMA until he joined Bellator in 2019.
He has earned the 40
th
spot in the worldwide rankings for best middleweight. With his great striking, he has shown that he can take on anyone and have a legitimate chance to win. A win here would not only propel his ranking, but give his career a boost.
Game Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick
MyBookie has the latest odds for the main event matchup, showing that Johnny Eblen is a heavy favorite to win the fight. Bettors should consider adding Eblen to a parlay with other bouts from the night to get the best odds.
Fabian Edwards: +280
Johnny Eblen: -476
This fight is arguably closer than the odds are indicating. However, Eblen has been a nightmare for every matchup so far that he has faced in Bellator’s middleweight division.
Edward has a shot, assuming he can stay patient in the pocket and take a lot of shots. Look for Eblen to still eventually come away with the win.
Spooky Express Pick: Take Johnny Eblen will win but find a prop due to high odds!
