Betting on the 2024 Masters Golf Tournament

April 11, 2024

The crack of the club, the hush of the crowd, the rustle of the wind through the pines – these are the sounds and sensations that stir the heart of every golfer. When it comes to the Masters Tournament, however, there's an extra layer of thrill that extends beyond the greens and fairways of the majestic Augusta National Golf Club.

The bet you place, the odds you defy, and the game you play against the house adds intensity to an already-tense championship. For golf enthusiasts and sports bettors alike, this is the annual Spooky Express comprehensive guide to navigating the 2024 Masters.

The Masters Details

Since its inception in 1934, the Masters has been a beacon of excellence, a rite of passage for golf's finest, and a slate where legends etch their names in history. The tournament's allure lies not only in its tradition but also in the exclusivity of its course, the meticulousness of its selection process, and the pristine conditions that challenge even the most seasoned pros.

With a field that typically comprises the smallest contingency among the four major golf championships, the Masters invitation is a golden ticket granted only to those with considerable talent and a record of performance.

Augusta National Course Facts

Augusta National Golf Club is not just a venue; it's a sanctuary for the sport, a canvas where every blade of grass is a thread in professional golf's vast tapestry. But what does it mean to a bettor, and how can one leverage the course's intricacies to their advantage?

The Augusta National Course plays as a Par 72, and its length alone, stretching 7,555 yards, would daunt any amateur player. Yet, it's not just about distance; it's about strategy, precision, and, often, the intangible element of simple luck. Each hole has a personality, a narrative that unfolds with every shot.

At 310 feet, Augusta National's elevation is more than just a number. It's a factor that can alter the trajectory of a swing, subtly nudging the ball towards or away from the flag. Players and bettors must be aware of this, factoring in the efficiency of their shots against this gentle but game-changing slope.

Augusta National boasts 44 bunkers and four water hazards, each strategically placed to test the golfer's mettle. From the treacherous layout of 'Amen Corner' to the serene spirits of Rae's Creek, these features can turn the tide of any match. Understanding a player's approach to these hazards is invaluable for a bettor.

Taking a predictive cue from the performance of professionals on courses with similar attributes can offer insights into Masters outcomes. Keeping an eye on Quail Hollow or the Plantation at Kapalua might provide a head start on which golfers are most comfortable with Augusta's challenges.

The Augusta National Course Hole Description

Each of Augusta National's 18 holes is a legend in its own right, but some command more attention than others. The tree-lined Par 3 at number 12, the dogleg left at number 13, and the nail-biting challenge on the 18th are arenas where fortunes can be made or dashed.

Our Golfers for the Masters

The 2024 Masters is not just another tournament. With the green jacket up for grabs, a few names stand out as the most likely contenders. The likes of the seasoned champions, the perennial favorites, and the dark horses all create a tapestry of possibilities.

From Phil Mickelson to Dustin Johnson, these veterans have the experience and the accolades to warrant serious consideration. But age and form are fickle companions, and a bettor must weigh experience against the raw talent of youth.

The new generation, led by players like Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland, brings a fresh dynamism to the sport. Their fearless approach could be the key to unlocking Augusta's mysteries, but it could also lead to costly missteps.

Golfers like Tony Finau, who perennially linger on the edge of significant victories, embody the spirit of the middle-of-the-pack. They have the skill, the nerve, and the drive but are often overshadowed by more flashy competitors.

Now that the details are out of the way, let's discuss who we like and who we will be betting on this week in The Masters.

So let's start out with who we like but refuse to bet.  These are just golfers that we like their options but at the price, we feel it is best to leave them alone.

Scottie Scheffler 5/1 (BetOnline) - The world's #1 golfer is hard to go against this week.  This guy has been truly amazing. In his 8 golf tournaments in 2024, he has 2 wins, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 10th, and 17th.  Think about that, he has not finished lower than 17th place in any tournament this year! That is the good, the bad..... he is 5/1 at best, even seeing him as low as 4/1. We just won't play him at that number.

Rory McIlroy 12/1 (BetOnline) - The golfer that everyone is talking about this year is Rory and his goal of winning the Masters.  Rory is playing very good golf and in great form, probably the best form he has been in heading into The Masters in recent years however he is only 12/1 and we just can't play him at that, knowing he has finished in 59th and 67th place in 2 of the last 3 years here at Augusta National.

Xander Schauffele 15/1 (BetOnline) - Xander looks really good as well, but again, his odds are so low. I just can't play him at this low number. He has finished inside the Top 5 in 3 of the last 4 tournaments so if you want to pick 1 golfer and only one golfer, maybe he is your guy.

The Golfers We Will Bet

Hideki Matsuyama 22/1 (BetOnline) - Hideki is a previous winner here, won in 2021, and is one of the hottest golfers on tour. His play around the green, where he ranks #1 in SG: ATG, is a tremendous advantage. Hideki is our top golfer this week!

Joaquin Niemann 31/1 (Bookmaker) - Niemann has to be looked at this week. This guy is smoking hot right now and is turning into the face of LIV Golf. He won at Mayakoba and Jeddah, and with playing against the pro's from the PGA Tour, you have to look at this guy.

Tony Finau 45/1 (BetOnline) - Finau is always interesting here at Augusta because of his distance. If he can keep it within the fairway, he has top 5 potential!

Shane Lowry 58/1 (Bookmaker) - Lowry finished in 3rd place here in 2022 and this course really fits his game nicely. He is in really nice form, finishing in 3rd place at the Arnold Palmer and 4th in Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches, as well as 19th at the Players and 29th pn the DP Tour at the Singapore Classic. Normally, golfers at this price don't really do well but we have to add Lowry this week, even at these odds.
