Boston Bruins vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

March 27, 2024

Two of the best teams in the Atlantic Division will square off on Wednesday evening when the Boston Bruins travel to Tampa, Florida to face the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Amalie Arena with the puck scheduled to drop at 7:30 PM ET and will air on HBO Max, the Northeast Sports Network, and TNT.

Boston Bruins Team Preview

The Boston Bruins looked like they were on their way to losing their 3rd game in a row as they trailed the Florida Panthers 2-3 with less than five minutes left in the 3rd period before Frederic tied the game 3-3 at the 15:38 mark in the 3rd period and Pavel Zacha scored the game-winning goal at the 17:39 mark in the final period to not only end the two-game losing streak for the Bruins but to put them in 1st place in the Atlantic Division and give Boston the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Jeremy Swayman will get the start on Wednesday evening for the Bruins and is 5-2 in his last seven starts while allowing an average of 3 goals per game in those contests. Boston has lost two of the three meetings against Tampa Bay this season.

However, the Bruins lost the game on the road this season by a score of 4-5 with both of their wins coming at home, and will look to split the regular season series when they travel to face the Tampa Bay Lightning in game four of the regular season series.

Tampa Bay Lightning Team Preview

The Tampa Bay Lightning have been one of the hottest teams in March in the NHL.

They have compiled a record of 7-1-1 entering the game against Boston while having won six of their last seven games following a 3-2 win in overtime on the road against the Anaheim Ducks and have outscored their opponents by an average of 4.33 to 2.78 goals per game this month. Offensive efficiency is nothing new for the Lightning as they have been one of the highest-scoring teams in the last few years in the NHL and that has continued this season as they are averaging the 5th most goals per game with an average of 3.53 goals per game.

The Lightning will look to continue their momentum as they push for a better spot in the playoffs this season after entering this game trailing the Toronto Maple Leafs by four points for the 3rd spot in the Atlantic Division but are unlikely to win the division this season as they trail the Bruins by 14 points with only 11 games left to play in the regular season.

Tampa Bay has won two of the three previous meetings this season and won the earlier matchup at home this season by a score of 5-4. The Tampa Bay Lightning will look to win the regular season series 3-1 when they host the Boston Bruins on Wednesday evening.

Odds and Series Trends

JustBet has the Tampa Bay Lightning listed as -116 moneyline favorites at home against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday evening. Tampa Bay has won two of the three previous meetings with one of the wins coming at home by a score of 5-4 and has won two straight games in the series at home with both wins coming by a single goal. However, the Bruins have dominated the series overall in the last ten meetings as they have won seven of the last ten against the Lightning.

Game Pick

Boston has dominated the series against Tampa Bay, however, they have lost two straight in the series on the road including a 4-5 loss on the road earlier this season against Tampa Bay. The Bruins have won seven of the last ten and two of the three meetings this season and enter this game with the better record. I look for the Boston Bruins to continue their dominance in the series with a win in game four and to win the regular season series 3-1 when they travel to face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday.
