Buffalo Sabres vs. Seattle Kraken

March 18, 2024

The Buffalo Sabres will look to get above .500 this month when they travel to Seattle, Washington, to face a struggling team, the Seattle Kraken, at Climate Pledge Arena.

The game will start at 10:00 PM ET on Monday night and will air on MSG Buffalo.

Buffalo Sabres Team Preview

The Buffalo Sabres have been inconsistent this season and need to get on a hot streak over the next month if they hope to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season. They enter this game with a record of 32-31-5 and 69 points, which puts them five points behind the Detroit Red Wings for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.

The Sabres failed to make up ground in what could have been a crucial matchup on Saturday when they faced the Detroit Red Wings on the road. They lost the game 1-4, ending their three-game winning streak. Buffalo was looking solid offensively in the three games prior, averaging 4.67 goals per game, before struggling offensively against Detroit, scoring only one goal.

Buffalo lost their only other meeting against Seattle, a 2-5 loss at home in January. They have struggled to score the majority of the season, averaging 2.96 goals per game, which ranks 23rd in the league. Buffalo will look to avenge the loss earlier this season against the Kraken when they travel to Seattle on Monday night.

Seattle Kraken Team Preview

Seattle made the playoffs in their 2nd season in the league. However, the odds of the Kraken making the playoffs this season are slim to none, and they have yet to be able to make up any ground in the Stanley Cup Playoff race this month, going 2-4-1 in March.

The Kraken have struggled to show any signs of life offensively over their last four games as they have averaged 1.5 goals per game over their previous four games outside of the game against the Golden Knights, in which they lost 4-5 in overtime, Seattle has not scored over one goal during that stretch.

Offensive struggles this season have been nothing new for Seattle, though. They are averaging the 5th fewest goals per game in the NHL, with an average of 2.73 goals per game. The Kraken won the contest against the Sabres earlier this season with a 5-2 win on the road, which was their 5th win all-time in the series.

Seattle has never lost to Buffalo in franchise history. The Seattle Kraken will look to remain undefeated against the Buffalo Sabres when they square off on Monday night.

Odds and Series Trends

WagerWeb has the Seattle Kraken listed as -120 moneyline favorites at home against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night. Seattle has dominated the series against Buffalo and has won all five contests, including the 5-2 win earlier this season. The Kraken has also won by an average margin of 2.8 goals per game in those meetings in which only one game has been decided by one goal.

Game Pick

Seattle has been struggling over the last month and the majority of the season and hasn’t shown any signs of life offensively for the majority of the season. However, they have been the dominant team against Buffalo and have averaged 5.2 goals per game against the Sabres, including scoring five goals against Buffalo in the matchup earlier this year. I look forward to that trend continuing on Monday night when the Seattle Kraken host the Buffalo Sabres.
