College Basketball Betting Picks and Predictions: Georgetown Hoyas vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights
November 15, 2023
In a Big East vs Big Ten showdown, the Georgetown Hoyas will travel to Piscataway, New Jersey to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at the Jersey Mike’s Arena with the game scheduled to tip off at 8:30 PM ET and will air on Fox Sports 1.
The Georgetown Hoyas finished last season with a record of 7-25 which included a record of 2-18 in Patrick Ewing’s 6
th
season as head coach which would also be his last as he was fired at the end of the season. The Hoyas finished in last place in the Big East Conference and finished the season on a four-game losing streak which included a loss in the 1
st
round of the Big East Tournament against the Villanova Wildcats. This season, under 1
st
-year head coach, Ed Cooley, Georgetown has started the year with a record of 1-1 with the win coming at home against the Le Moyne College Dolphins by a score of 94-57 while covering the 21.5-point spread as a home favorite and the loss coming at home against the Holy Cross Crusaders by a score of 67-68 while failing to cover the 17-point spread as a home favorite and will now face their toughest opponent in the early season when they travel to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers were in the bottom half of the Big Ten Conference last season as they finished the regular season with a record of 19-15 and a record of 10-10 in conference play which led to a tie with Penn State for 9
th
place in the conference. The Scarlet Knights defeated the Michigan Wolverines in the 2
nd
round of the Big Ten Conference Tournament by a score of 62-50 before losing in the Quarterfinals against the Purdue Boilermakers by a score of 65-70 which also caused the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to miss the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2018-19 college basketball season, however, they were one of the host sites in the NIT Tournament but lost to the Hofstra Pride by a score of 86-88 in overtime. This season, the Scarlet Knights have started the season with a record of 2-1 with wins at home against the Boston Terriers by a score of 69-45 and the Bryant Bulldogs by a score of 66-57 while losing at home against the Princeton Tigers by a score of 61-68.
BookMaker has the Rutgers Scarlet Knights listed as 8.5-point favorites
at home against the Georgetown Hoyas on Wednesday night. Georgetown has won nine of the last ten including the previous four meetings. Both teams are 5-5 ATS in the last ten while the Scarlet Knights are 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Georgetown Hoyas are 1-1 ATS overall this season while the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are 1-2 ATS overall, 1-2 ATS at home, and 1-2 ATS as a favorite on the year.
Rutgers is the more talented team this season, however, Georgetown has dominated the series against the Scarlet Knights having won nine of the last ten meetings including the previous four games. The Scarlet Knights have also struggled to cover the spread this season as they are 1-2 ATS overall and 1-2 ATS at home which is why I am buying the .5 point and taking the points with the Georgetown Hoyas when they travel to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Wednesday night.
Spooky Express Pick: Georgetown Hoyas +9
