College Basketball Betting Picks and Predictions: Tennessee Vols vs. Wofford Terriers

November 14, 2023

The Wofford Terriers will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to face the 7th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers at the Thompson-Boling Arena with the tipoff scheduled for 6:30 PM ET and will air on ESPN+.

Wofford finished last season with a record of 17-16 but had a losing record in Southern Conference play as they finished with a record of 8-10 which led to a tie with the East Tennessee State Buccaneers for 5th place in the conference. The Terriers won in the Quarterfinals in the Southern Conference Tournament against the UNC Greensboro Spartans but were eliminated in the Semifinals against the Chattanooga Mocs by a score of 62-74 and the Wofford Terriers were not invited to any postseason tournament and have not made the NCAA tournament since the 2018-19 college basketball season. The Terriers have started this season off with a record of 2-0 following wins at home against the Brevard College Tornadoes by a score of 85-68 and the High Point Panthers by a score of 99-98 while failing to cover the 2-point spread as a home favorite. Neither team that the Wofford Terriers have faced this season is even close to the talent that they will face when they travel to face the Tennessee Volunteers.

Tennessee enters this game ranked 7th in the AP Poll and 8th in the Coaches Poll with a record of 2-0. The Volunteers are coming off an impressive 80-70 win on the road against the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday and covered the 3-point spread as a road favorite which followed up an 80-42 win at home against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in which the Volunteers also covered the spread as a 32-point home favorite. The Volunteers have been led early success this season by Dalton Knech who is one of the better players in the SEC and is averaging 20.5 points per game this season. The Volunteers should not be tested at all on Tuesday night when they host the Wofford Terriers.

BookMaker has the Tennessee Volunteers listed as 31-point favorites at home against the Wofford Terriers on Tuesday evening. Tennessee has won the last two games in the series by an average margin of 8.5 points per game while the Terriers are 2-0 ATS in the previous three games in the series. The Wofford Terriers are 0-1 ATS overall this season while the Tennessee Volunteers are 2-0 ATS overall, 1-0 ATS at home, and 2-0 ATS as a favorite on the year.

Tennessee is clearly the more talented team this season as they enter this matchup ranked in the Top 10 in both the AP and Coaches Poll with a record of 2-0 and have won the last two games in the series against Wofford. The Volunteers have also covered the spread in both of their games to start the season as they are 2-0 ATS overall and 2-0 ATS as a favorite. However, the Wofford Terriers are 2-0 ATS in the last two games in the series and 31 points is a lot to give up against a team that has only lost by an average margin of 8.5 points per game in the last two games in the series which is why I am taking the points with the Wofford Terriers when they travel to face the Tennessee Volunteers.
