College Football Betting Preview: ACC Championship - Florida St Seminoles vs. Louisville Cardinals

December 2, 2023

The 2023 ACC Championship game will take place on Saturday night when the 14th-ranked Louisville Cardinals play the 4th-ranked Florida State Seminoles in Charlotte, North Carolina at Bank of America Stadium with the game kicking off at 8:00 PM ET and will air on ABC.

The Louisville Cardinals enter this game with a record of 10-2 which included a record of 7-1 in the ACC which led to a 2nd place finish in the regular season, however, they saw their four-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday when they lost at home to the Kentucky Wildcats by a score of 31-38.

Louisville has been a well-balanced team offensively this season as they have been above average in rushing and passing yards per game while averaging 33 points per game. Jawhar Jordan has been one of the main catalysts for the success the Cardinals have had offensively as he enters this game with 1,076 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 225 receiving yards and a touchdown.

However, the main reason for their success this season can be attributed to their defense as they are allowing an average of 20 points per game which ranks 25th in college football. The Louisville Cardinals will be playing in their first ACC Championship game since joining the conference when they play the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday night.

Despite not having Jordan Travis for the majority of their last two games, the Florida State Seminoles are still alive for a playoff spot and only need to win this game to secure their spot in the 2023 College Football Playoffs as they enter this game ranked 4th in the College Football Playoff rankings with a record of 12-0 which led to a regular-season championship and a spot in the ACC Championship game for the first time since the 2014 college football season. Jordan Travis played a pivotal role in the success the offense had this season as he completed 207 of 324 attempts for 2,755 yards with 20 touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing for seven touchdowns.

The scoring defense for the Seminoles was one of the best in college football as they enter this game allowing the 11th fewest points per game with an average of 16.75 points per game. The Florida State Seminoles will be going for their 5th ACC Championship when they play the Louisville Cardinals.

BookMaker has the Florida State Seminoles listed as 2.5-point favorites against the Louisville Cardinals in the ACC Championship game on Saturday night. The teams are 5-5 in the last ten while Louisville has won two of the last three meetings.

The Cardinals are 6-4 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Louisville Cardinals are 6-6 ATS overall, 1-0 ATS as an underdog, and 4-4 ATS in conference games this season while the Florida State Seminoles are 7-5 ATS overall, 6-5 ATS as a favorite, and 4-4 ATS in conference games on the year.

Florida State enters this game with a better record and is the higher-ranked team, however, Louisville has been the better team most recently in the series, winning two of the last three games. The Cardinals have also been the better team at covering the spread in the series as they are 6-4 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three meetings.

I look for the loss of Jordan Travis to be too much for the Seminoles to overcome against one of the better teams in college football this season which is why I am buying the .5 point and taking the points with the Louisville Cardinals in the ACC Championship game.
