September 15, 2023

This matchup features two 1-1 teams looking to get above .500 for the first time this season when the Army Golden Knights travel to take on the UTSA Roadrunners in week 3 of the college football season. Army is 1-1 this season following a loss on the road in week 1 against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks by a score of 13-17 while winning in week 2 at home against the Delaware State Hornets by a score of 57-0 while the UTSA lost in week 1 on the road against the Houston Cougars by a score of 14-17 and winning in week 2 at home against the Texas State Bobcats.

Which team will get their 2nd win in this matchup on Friday in week 3 of the college football season? Let’s take a closer look at how these teams are faring this season.

The Army Golden Knights enter this game with a record of 1-1 following a 57-0 win at home against the Delaware State Hornets as well as covering the 39.5-point spread as a home favorite. The Golden Knights scored 57 points while compiling 525 total yards offensively which included 238 passing yards and 287 rushing yards while shutting out the Hornets and allowing 219 total yards defensively which included 195 passing yards and 24 rushing yards.

Bryson Daily led the team in passing, completing 8 of 11 attempts for 193 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 65 yards and two touchdowns on nine attempts. Larry Robinson led the team in rushing with five carries for 67 yards and 1 touchdown. Isaiah Alston led the team in receiving, catching three of four targets for 138 yards and two touchdowns.

UTSA enters this game with a record of 1-1 following a 20-13 win at home against the Texas State Bobcats, however, the Roadrunners failed to cover the 13.5-point spread as a home favorite. The Roadrunners scored 20 points while compiling 372 total yards offensively which included 214 passing yards and 158 rushing yards while allowing 13 points and 242 total yards defensively with 211 passing yards and 31 rushing yards.

Frank Harris led the team in passing, completing 26 of 37 attempts for 214 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 15 yards. Kevorian Barnes led the team in rushing for 26 attempts for 103 yards while adding three receptions for 16 yards. Tykee Ogle-Kellogg led the team in receiving, catching six of nine targets for 78 yards.

BookMaker has the UTSA Roadrunners listed as 11-point favorites at home against the Army Golden Knights on Friday evening in week 3 of the college football season. Army has won two of the three games all-time in the series while going 2-1 ATS in those matchups. Army is 1-1 ATS overall and 0-1 ATS on the road while the UTSA Roadrunners are 0-2 ATS overall, 0-1 ATS at home, and 0-2 ATS as a favorite.

UTSA is the more talented team, however, Army has been the better team in the series, winning two of the three games all-time while going 2-1 ATS in those matchups. UTSA has struggled this season against the spread going 0-2 ATS overall and I look for their struggles to continue in this matchup which is why I am taking the Army Golden Knights +11 on the road on Friday night in week 3 of the college football season on BookMaker.
