College Football Betting Preview: Boise State Broncos vs Washington Huskies

September 2, 2023

The Boise State Broncos finished last season with a record of 10-4 and a record of 8-0 in the Mountain West which led to the Broncos winning the Mountain Division and earning a trip to the Mountain West Conference Championship game against the Fresno State Bulldogs in which the Broncos lost by a score of 16-28. Boise State ended the season with a trip to the Frisco Bowl in which the Broncos defeated the North Texas Mean Green by a score of 35-32.

This season the Broncos enter the year with an over/under win total of 8.5 wins which means Boise State is projected to make a bowl game for the 2nd consecutive season under Andy Avalos. Based on Vegas odds the Broncos are projected to be the best team in the Mountain West and are +185 to accomplish that feat.

The Washington Huskies should feature one of the best offenses in college football as the Huskies return star quarterback, Michael Penix Jr., as well as wide receivers, Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan. The Huskies finished last season with a record of 11-2 and a Pac-12 record of 7-2 which led to a tie for 2nd place in the Pac-12 and an appearance in the Alamo Bowl against the Texas Longhorns in which the Huskies won by a score of 27-20. Washington finished last season ranked 8th in the Coaches and 8th in the AP Polls.

This season, the Washington Huskies enter the season ranked 10th in the AP Poll and 11th in the Coaches Poll with an over/under win total of 9.5 wins which means the Huskies are projected to become bowl-eligible for the 2nd season in a row under 2nd year head coach Kalen DeBoer. Based on Vegas odds, Washington is projected to be the 3rd best team in the Pac-12 only behind the USC Trojans and Oregon Ducks, and has the 14th-best odds of winning a National Championship this season.

BookMaker has the Washington Huskies listed as 14-point favorites at home against the Boise State Broncos on Saturday for week 1 of the college football season. Washington has been the better team in the series, winning three of the five games all-time and two of the last three games while going 5-0 ATS all-time in the series. Boise State finished last season 6-7-1 ATS overall, 2-3-1 ATS on the road, and 1-1 ATS as an underdog while Washington finished 8-5 ATS overall, 5-2 ATS at home, and 6-5 ATS as a favorite.

Washington is the more talented team this season, however, this should still be an exciting game with plenty of points scored as it will feature two above-average offenses. However, I look for the Huskies to have too much firepower on offense in this game and for the Broncos to be overmatched with Washington increasing their margin of victory in the 4th quarter. Washington has been the better team in the series, winning three of the five games all-time and two of the last three games while going 5-0 ATS all-time in the series.

As a result, I am taking the Washington Huskies -14 on BookMaker for this matchup on Saturday afternoon for week 1 of the college football season.
