College Football Betting Preview: BYU Cougars vs. Oklahoma Sooners
November 18, 2023
-ranked Oklahoma Sooners will travel to Provo, Utah to face the BYU Cougars at LaVell Edward Stadiums on Saturday afternoon in a matchup of two Big 12 teams with kickoff scheduled to start at 12:00 PM ET and the game will air on ESPN in week 12 of the college football season.
Oklahoma was looking like the best team in the Big 12 as they started the season with a record of 7-0 which included a win in the “Red River Rivalry” against the Texas Longhorns by a score of 34-30 with Texas being ranked 3
in college football at that time, however the Sooners are lost two of their last three games and have a record of 8-2 which includes a 5-2 record in the Big 12, so the Oklahoma Sooners are still alive for a spot in the Big 12 Championship game as they are currently tied with the Oklahoma State Cowboys, the Iowa State Cyclones, and the Kansas State Wildcats for 2
place in the conference and are coming off a blowout win at home against the West Virginia Mountaineers in week 11 by a score of 59-20 while Oklahoma also had 314 more total yards on offense compared to the West Virginia Mountaineers and Dillon Gabriel had one of his best games this season as he completed 23 of 36 attempts for 423 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 50 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
The BYU Cougars enter this game with a record of 5-5 which means they have to win one of their final two games this season but will face two of the top teams in the Big 12 over that span as they will host the Oklahoma Sooners this week and then have to travel to face the Oklahoma State Cowboys next week. BYU has one of the worst records in the conference with a record of 2-5 in conference play and is on a three-game losing streak following a 13-45 loss at home against the Iowa State Cyclones and the loss can be attributed to their lack of protecting the football as they are -3 in the turnover department. Things won’t be any easier this week as the BYU Cougars will host the 14
-ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday afternoon.
BookMaker has the Oklahoma Sooners listed as 24.5-point favorites on the road against the BYU Cougars on Saturday afternoon in week 12 of the college football season. This will only be the 2
meeting between these teams with the last game occurring in 2009 which resulted in a 14-13 win for the BYU Cougars on the road while covering the 23-point spread as an underdog. The Oklahoma Sooners are 7-3 ATS overall, 2-2 ATS on the road, 6-3 ATS as a favorite, and 4-3 ATS in conference games this season while the BYU Cougars are 3-7 ATS overall, 2-3 ATS at home, 2-5 ATS as an underdog, and 2-5 ATS in conference games on the year.
Oklahoma is the better team this season and has been one of the best teams at covering the spread in the Big 12 going 7-3 ATS overall and 6-3 ATS as a favorite while BYU has been one of the worst teams in the conference at covering the spread going 3-7 ATS overall and 2-5 ATS as an underdog which is why I am buying the .5 point and laying the points with the Oklahoma Sooners on the road in this matchup.
Spooky Express Pick: Oklahoma Sooners -24
