College Football Betting Preview: C. Michigan Chippewas vs. W. Michigan Broncos

November 7, 2023

A pair of in-state rivals in the MAC will square off on Tuesday evening in week 11 of the college football season when the Central Michigan Chippewas travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan to face the Western Michigan Broncos at Waldo Stadium with the game scheduled to start at 7:00 PM ET and will air on ESPNU.

Central Michigan still has a chance to play for the MAC Championship this season as they are tied for 2nd place, however, they will need to win out and hope that the Toledo Rockets will lose another game before they face them at the end of the year. Last Tuesday, the Chippewas came away with a win at home against the Northern Illinois Huskies but nearly lost the game after allowing 28 points in the 2nd half including 20 unanswered, however, they were a 6.5-point underdog heading into the game but won the game outright at home. The running game for the Central Michigan Chippewas played a major role in the win as Marion Lukes and Jase Bauer combined for 308 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 41 carries in the win.

The Western Michigan Broncos are in danger of missing a bowl game for the 2nd year in a row as they enter this game with a record of 3-6 and will need to win their remaining games to qualify for a bowl game this season. Western Michigan had dropped three games in a row heading into week 9’s matchup with the Eastern Michigan Eagles, however, the Broncos had an impressive win on the road to end that losing streak by defeating the Eagles by a score of 45-21 while also covering the 3-point spread as a road favorite. Jalen Buckley played a pivotal part in the win against Eastern Michigan as he rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.

BookMaker has the Western Michigan Broncos listed as 3-point favorites at home against the Central Michigan Chippewas on Tuesday evening. Western Michigan has won seven of the last ten and two of the last three meetings while going 5-4-1 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Central Michigan Chippewas are 3-6 ATS overall, 2-3 ATS on the road, 3-1 ATS as an underdog, and 1-4 ATS in conference games this season while the Western Michigan Broncos are 6-3 ATS overall, 2-1 ATS at home, 3-0 ATS as a favorite, and 4-1 ATS in conference games on the year.

Western Michigan has dominated the series over the last ten meetings winning seven of those ten and two of the last three. The Broncos have been the better team at covering the spread this season and in the series going 5-4-1 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games while also going 6-3 ATS overall and 4-1 ATS in conference games while the Chippewas are 3-6 ATS overall and have only covered the spread once in conference play going 1-4 ATS in conference games. I look for those trends to continue in this matchup which is why I am laying the points with the Western Michigan Broncos at home when they host the Central Michigan Chippewas on Tuesday evening.
