College Football Betting Preview: Clemson Tigers vs. North Carolina Tar Heels
November 18, 2023
In a battle between two ACC rivals, the 20
th
-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels will travel to Clemson, South Carolina to face the Clemson Tigers at Memorial Stadium in week 12 of the college football season with the game scheduled to start at 3:30 PM ET and will air on ESPN on Saturday afternoon.
Even though North Carolina is unlikely to make it to the ACC Championship game this season, they have still had a solid season as they enter this game with an overall record of 8-2 which includes a record of 4-2 in the ACC and are on a two-game winning streak following a double-overtime win at home against the Duke Blue Devils last week. The Tar Heels looked like a conference championship contender early on in the season as they started the year with a record of 6-0, however, they are only .500 in their last two games with their losses coming at home against the Virginia Cavaliers and on the road against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The scoring offense for the North Carolina Tar Heels has been one of the best in college football this season as they enter this game averaging 39.9 points per game which ranks 8
th
in college football and their passing offense has been one of the best as they enter averaging 311.3 passing yards per game which is the 7
th
most in college football. The success in the passing game can be attributed to Drake Maye who has completed 231 of 351 attempts for 3,145 yards with 21 touchdowns and six interceptions while also rushing for eight touchdowns.
The Clemson Tigers looked as though they may miss a bowl game for the first time under Dabo Swinney as they started the season with a record of 4-4, however, they enter this game on a two-game winning streak following last week’s 42-21 win at home against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets with the win also getting the Tigers to bowl eligibility. The success for the Tigers over their last two games can be attributed to their offense which is averaging 36.5 points per game during their winning streak. The Tigers have one of the better defenses in college football as they are allowing an average of 21.2 points per game, however, they will have their hands full as they will be facing the best offense they have played this season when they host the Tar Heels in week 12 of the college football season.
BookMaker has the Clemson Tigers listed as 7.5-point favorites at home against the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday afternoon in week 12 of the college football season. Clemson has won eight of the last ten including the previous five meetings while going 6-4 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The North Carolina Tar Heels are 6-4 ATS overall, 1-1 ATS on the road, and 3-3 ATS in conference games this season while the Clemson Tigers are 4-6 ATS overall, 3-3 ATS at home, 3-5 ATS as a favorite, and 2-5 ATS in conference games on the year.
Clemson has dominated the series against North Carolina, having won the previous five games in a row and eight of the last ten. However, the Tigers have struggled to cover the spread this season as they are 4-6 ATS overall and 2-5 ATS in their conference games while North Carolina is 6-4 ATS overall. Buy the .5 point and take the points with the North Carolina Tar Heels when they face the Clemson Tigers.
