Louisville enters this game ranked 18^th in the AP Poll and 18^th in the Coaches Poll with a record of 6-1 following a 21-38 loss on the road against the Pittsburgh Panthers while failing to cover the 7-point spread as a road favorite in week 7 of the college football season. The Cardinals scored 21 points while compiling a total of 416 yards offensively which included 336 passing yards and 80 rushing yards while allowing 38 points and 288 total yards defensively which included 200 passing yards and 88 rushing yards. Jack Plummer led the team in passing, completing 29 of 52 attempts for 350 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Maurice Turner led the team in rushing with 12 carries for 81 yards. Jamari Thrash led the team in receiving, catching nine of 17 targets for 120 yards.
