College Football Betting Preview: James Madison Dukes vs. Georgia State Panthers

November 4, 2023

Two of the best teams in the Sun Belt will face each other on Saturday afternoon when the James Madison Dukes travel to Atlanta, Georgia to face the Georgia State Panthers at Center Parc Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 3:30 PM ET in week 10 of the college football season and airing on ESPN 2.

The James Madison Dukes are not in the Top 25 in the College Football Playoff rankings despite a record of 8-0 as this is only their 2nd year at the FBS level and are ineligible for a bowl game unless there aren't enough 6-6 teams that qualify for bowl games. James Madison enters this game with a record of 8-0 following a 30-27 win at home against the Old Dominion Monarchs while failing to cover the 19.5-point spread as a home favorite in week 9 of the college football season.

The Dukes scored 30 points while compiling a total of 463 yards offensively which included 340 passing yards and 123 rushing yards while allowing 27 points and 415 total yards defensively which included 277 passing yards and 138 rushing yards. Jordan McCloud led the team in passing, completing 27 of 40 attempts for 340 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 13 rushing yards and a touchdown on 10 attempts.

Ty Son Lawton led the team in rushing with 13 carries for 67 yards while adding a reception for four yards. Reggie Brown led the team in receiving with nine receptions for 142 yards and two touchdowns.

Georgia State enters this game with a record of 6-2 following a 27-44 loss on the road against the Georgia Southern Eagles while failing to cover the 1-point spread as a road underdog in week 9 of the college football season. The Panthers scored 27 points while compiling a total of 443 yards offensively which included 157 passing yards and 286 rushing yards while allowing 44 points and 452 total yards defensively which included 334 passing yards and 118 rushing yards.

Davis Brin led the team in passing, completing 22 of 35 attempts for 334 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. Jalen White led the team in rushing with 25 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown while adding a reception for four yards. Dalen Cobb led the team in receiving, catching two of three targets for 100 yards and a touchdown.

BookMaker has the James Madison Dukes listed as 6-point favorites on the road against the Georgia State Panthers on Saturday afternoon in week 10 of the college football season. James Madison won the game last season by a score of 42-40 while Georgia State covered the 10-point spread as a home underdog.

The James Madison Dukes are 5-3 ATS overall, 3-1 ATS on the road, 4-3 ATS as a favorite, and 4-1 ATS in conference games this season while the Georgia State Panthers are 5-3 ATS overall, 2-2 ATS at home, 2-1 ATS as an underdog, and 3-2 ATS in conference games on the year.

Both teams are two of the best teams in the Sun Belt Conference as the James Madison Dukes are in 1st place in the East Division while Georgia State is in 3rd place in the East Division. James Madison has been one of the best teams at covering the spread in conference play going 4-1 ATS in their conference games which is why I am laying the points with the James Madison Dukes when they travel to face the Georgia State Panthers on Saturday afternoon in week 10 of the college football season.
