College Football Betting Preview: Kansas Jayhawks vs. Kansas St Wildcats

November 18, 2023

A pair of in-state rivals in the Big 12 will face off against each other in week 12 of the college football season when the 21st-ranked Kansas State Wildcats travel to Lawrence, Kansas to face the 25th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks at Kivisto Field at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium with the game scheduled to start at 7:00 PM ET and will air on Fox Sports 1.

Kansas State still has a chance to make it to the Big 12 Championship game as they enter this game with a record of 7-3 and are tied with the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oklahoma Sooners, and Iowa State Cyclones for 2nd place in the conference, however, they will need Oklahoma State to lose another game and will need to win out as they have already lost to Oklahoma State by a score of 21-29 earlier this season and their last game will come against the Iowa State Cyclones. The Wildcats have had one of the best scoring offenses in college football this season as they enter this game averaging 38.8 points per game which ranks 12th this year. Their success on offense can be attributed to their rushing attack as they rank 12th in rushing yards per game with an average of 202.4 yards per game with DJ Giddens and Treshaun Ward also forming one of the best duos at the running back position as they have combined for a total of 1399 yards and 11 touchdowns on 250 carries.

Kansas started the season off 4-0, however, they are 3-3 in their last six games this season including a 13-16 loss at home against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in week 11 of the college football season while failing to cover the 4-point spread as a home favorite. However, the offense for the Jayhawks has still been an above-average scoring offense this season as they enter this game having scored an average of 32.7 points per game, however, their scoring defense has been below average as they are allowing an average of 26.2 points per game. Things won’t get any easier this week following the loss against the Texas Tech Red Raiders as they will host their in-state rivals, the Kansas State Wildcats, on Saturday night in week 12 of the college football season.

BookMaker has the Kansas State Wildcats listed as 7.5-point favorites on the road against the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday evening in week 12 of the college football season. Kansas State has won the last ten meetings while winning by an average margin of 23.3 points per game over the last ten and 28.67 points per game over the last three games in the series. The Wildcats are 7-3 ATS in the last ten and 3-0 ATS in the last three matchups. The Kansas State Wildcats are 7-2-1 ATS overall, 1-2-1 ATS on the road, 6-2 ATS as a favorite, and 5-1-1 ATS in conference games this season while the Kansas Jayhawks are 5-5 ATS overall, 4-2 ATS at home, 3-1 ATS as an underdog, and 4-3 ATS in conference games on the year.

Kansas State has dominated this in-state rivalry as they have won the last ten meetings and have won by an average margin of 23.3 points per game over the last ten and 28.67 points per game in the last three contests. The Wildcats are also 7-3 ATS in the last ten and 3-0 ATS in the last three games in the series while also being the better team at covering the spread this year going 7-3 ATS overall while the Jayhawks are 5-5 ATS overall which is why I am buying the .5 point and laying the points with the Kansas State Wildcats in week 12 of the college football season.
