College Football Betting Preview: Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs. Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders

October 10, 2023

A pair of Conference USA opponents will clash live on CBS Sports Network at 7:00 on Tuesday night when the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs travel to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to take on the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders at Johnny Floyd Stadium.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs enter this game with a record of 3-4 and are coming off a 28-35 loss at home against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in week 6 of the college football season. The Bulldogs failed to cover the 6-point spread as a home underdog last Thursday night which was their first non-cover after covering the spread in their previous two games. Louisiana Tech scored 28 points while compiling a total of 397 yards offensively which included 259 passing yards and 138 rushing yards while allowing 35 points and 426 total yards defensively which included 297 passing yards and 129 rushing yards. Jack Turner led the team in passing, completing 21 of 41 attempts for 259 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions while rushing for 18 yards and a touchdown. Tyre Shelton led the team in rushing with 21 carries for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Smoke Harris led the team in receiving, catching 11 of 13 targets for 117 yards.

Middle Tennessee State enters this game with a record of 1-5 which includes a 30-45 loss at home against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks while failing to cover the 2.5-point spread as a home favorite in week 6 of the college football season. The Blue Raiders scored 30 points while compiling a total of 563 yards offensively which included 454 passing yards and 109 rushing yards while allowing 45 points and 401 total yards defensively which included 235 passing yards and 166 rushing yards. Nicholas Vattiato led the team in passing, completing 26 of 41 attempts for 408 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Terry Wilkins led the team in rushing with one carry for 75 yards and a touchdown. Justin Olson led the team in receiving, catching all nine targets for 124 yards.

BookMaker has the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders listed as 3-point favorites at home against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Tuesday night in week 7 of the college football season. Louisiana Tech has won four of the six matchups all-time and two of the last three games in the series while going 2-0-1 ATS in the last three matchups. Louisiana Tech is 3-4 ATS overall, 2-1 ATS on the road, 1-2 ATS as an underdog, and 1-2 ATS in conference games this season while the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders are 1-5 ATS overall, 0-3 ATS at home, 0-3 ATS as a favorite, and 0-2 ATS in conference games on the year.

Middle Tennessee State has been dreadful this season as far as a win/loss record and has been one of the worst teams at covering the spread in college football. The Blue Raiders have a 1-5 record and have only covered the spread once in their six games this year. I don’t look for that to change as the Bulldogs have been the better team at covering the spread in the series going 2-0-1 ATS in the last three matchups. Don’t worry about the points, I look for the Bulldogs to win this game straight up which is why I am taking the money line for Louisiana Tech at +127 for this matchup on BookMaker.
