College Football Betting Preview: Louisville Cardinals vs. Kentucky Wildcats

November 25, 2023

The 2023 battle for the “Governor's Cup” will take place on Saturday afternoon in week 13 of the college football season when the Kentucky Wildcats travel to Louisville, Kentucky to face the 10th-ranked Louisville Cardinals at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium with the game scheduled to start at 12:00 PM ET and will air on ABC.

The Kentucky Wildcats had a great start to the season as they started the season with a record of 5-0, however, they would go on to win five of their next six games including last week’s 14-17 loss on the road against the South Carolina Gamecocks which also extended their losing streak to three games. The scoring offense through the first five games this season was averaging 37 points per game, however, over their last six games the Wildcats are only averaging 20 points per game. However, Devin Leary has had a solid season this year as he enters this game having completed 181 of 323 attempts for 2,234 yards with 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions while Ray Davis only needs ten yards to reach 1,000 yards this season and has 12 rushing touchdowns.

Louisville will be playing the Florida State Seminoles for the ACC Championship next week which will also be Louisville's first ACC Championship game since joining the conference. The Cardinals enter this game with a record of 10-1 and are on a four-game winning streak since their lone loss to the Pittsburgh Panthers which includes a 38-31 win on the road against the Miami Hurricanes last week. The Cardinals have one of the best defenses in the ACC as they are allowing an average of 18.36 points per game which ranks 17th in college football. Louisville has also had one of the highest-scoring offenses in college football as they are averaging 33.18 points per game. Jawhar Jordan has been one of the main catalysts for the success of the offense for the Louisville Cardinals as he leads the team in rushing with 1,009 yards and 11 touchdowns while also having 15 receptions for 200 yards and a touchdown.

BookMaker has the Louisville Cardinals listed as 7.5-point favorites at home against the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in week 13 of the college football season. The teams are 5-5 in the last ten matchups while Kentucky has won the previous four meetings. The Wildcats are 6-4 ATS in the last ten while having covered the spread in the previous four games in a row. The Kentucky Wildcats are 5-6 ATS overall, 2-2 ATS on the road, and 0-4 ATS as an underdog this season while the Louisville Cardinals are 6-5 ATS overall, 5-1 ATS at home, and 4-5 ATS as a favorite on the year.

The Louisville Cardinals are the better team this season and have been one of the best teams at covering the spread at home as they are 5-1 ATS at home while the Kentucky Wildcats have yet to cover the spread as an underdog as they are 0-4 ATS as an underdog on the year. I look for those trends to continue in this matchup which is why I am buying the .5 point and laying the points with the Louisville Cardinals when they host the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in week 13 of the college football season.
