College Football Betting Preview: Miami Hurricanes vs. Temple Owls

September 23, 2023

After a disappointing 5-7 record last season, the Miami Hurricanes have gotten off to a nice start to the 2023 college football season with a record of 3-0 and have found their way into the Top 25 this week.

Temple has also gotten off to a nice start and is only one win away from matching their win total from last season. Miami is a huge favorite when they travel to take on the Temple Owls but can the Owls keep the game closer than expected? Let’s take a look at how these teams have fared this season.

The Miami Hurricanes enter this game ranked 20th in the AP Poll and 21st in the AP Poll with a record of 3-0 following a 48-7 win at home against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, however, the Hurricanes failed to cover the 54-point spread as a home favorite in week 3 of the college football season. Miami scored 48 points while compiling 589 total yards offensively which included 349 passing yards and 240 rushing yards while allowing 7 points and 165 total yards defensively which included 132 passing yards and 33 rushing yards. Tyler Van Dyke led the team in passing, completing 19 of 23 attempts for 247 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 16 yards and a touchdown. Donald Chaney Jr. led the team in rushing with seven carries for 73 yards and a touchdown. Xavier Restrepo led the team in receiving, catching all six targets for 120 yards.

Temple enters this game with a record of 2-1 following a 41-9 win at home against the Norfolk State Spartans while covering the 30.5-point spread as a home favorite in week 3 of the college football season. The Owls scored 41 points while compiling 532 total yards offensively which included 242 passing yards and 290 rushing yards while allowing 9 points and 240 total yards defensively which included 110 passing yards and 130 rushing yards. E.J. Warner led the team in passing, completing 14 of 22 attempts for 238 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 24 yards. Joquez Smith led the team in rushing with 15 carries for 142 yards and a touchdown while adding a reception for 15 yards and a touchdown. Amad Anderson Jr. led the team in receiving with five receptions for 79 yards.

BookMaker has the Miami Hurricanes listed as 23.5-point favorites on the road against the Temple Owls on Saturday afternoon in week 4 of the college football season. Miami has won the last ten matchups in the series while going 6-4 ATS in the last ten contests. Miami is 2-1 ATS overall and 1-1 ATS as a favorite while the Temple Owls are 1-2 ATS overall, 1-1 ATS at home, and 0-1 ATS as an underdog.

Miami is the more talented team this season and has been the better team in the series, winning the last ten games in a row. The Hurricanes have also been the better team this season at covering the spread going 2-1 ATS overall while the Temple Owls are 1-2 ATS overall. I look for those trends to continue which is why I am buying the .5 point and taking the Miami Hurricanes -23 on the road against the Temple Owls in week 4 of the college football season on BookMaker.
