College Football Betting Preview: Miami OH Red Hawks vs. UMass Minutemen
September 9, 2023
The Miami (OH) RedHawks (0-1) will make the trip to Massachusetts to battle the UMass Minutemen (1-1) in what should be an appealing betting opportunity. Both teams have a great shot to win, but this should be a close contest.
Date: September 9, 2023 at 3:30 PM ET
Location: Warren McGuirk Alumni Stadium in Amherst, Massachusetts
Coverage: ESPN+
Miami (OH) RedHawks Betting Preview
The RedHawks will look to find their first victory of the season. Their first game was against the Miami Hurricanes, which ended in a blowout 38-3 defeat.
In that game, they put up 215 total yards and were able to land 164 yards in passing. However, their defense was not great. They allowed 493 total yards and gave up nearly an even amount on both passing and rushing.
They finished 6-7 last year in the MAC East, which should be reasonable to achieve those standards again. They will have a difficult time if they cannot defend, especially against better teams moving forward.
Their biggest issues seem to stem from their confidence in their running game. They were only able to put up 51 rushing yards, which will need to improve if they have issues passing.
UMass Minutemen Betting Preview
The Minutemen are aiming to get back on track after a 59-14 loss to the Auburn Tigers. Prior to that, they looked promising in their 41-30 victory against the New Mexico State Aggies.
In their averages for both games so far, they have put up 345 total yards each occurrence and have had a balanced attack from passing and running. On defense, they have allowed 481 total yards and gave up 255.5 of those each game to rushing.
They are already on pace to break out of their slump from last season, as they went 1-11. As an independent, they can have more leeway in their schedule instead of facing divisional rivals.
If they continue to show signs of improvement in their football program, they could join a conference one day. Their basketball team already plays in the A-10, so their football could follow suit.
Game Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick
MyBookie's latest odds show that the Miami (OH) RedHawks are slight favorites to win. Looking at the market analysis, the RedHawks have a 61.1 percent chance to win on the road.
UMass Minutemen +7 (-110)
Miami (OH) RedHawks -7 (-110)
The Minutemen already have a spark to their season with their first victory in week one. Even though they had a blowout loss against the Tigers, they were able to put 14 points on the board.
The RedHawks were unable to score a touchdown and had to settle for a field goal in their defeat. When comparing offensive options, the Minutemen seem more appealing.
Spooky Express Pick: Take the UMass Minutemen at +7 (-110)
