College Football Betting Preview: Michigan Wolverines vs. Penn St Nittany Lions

November 11, 2023

Two Big Ten East rivals will meet on Saturday afternoon in week 11 of the college football season when the 3rd-ranked Michigan Wolverines travel to University Park, Pennsylvania to face the 10th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium with the game airing nationally on Fox and kickoff scheduled for 12:00 PM ET.

The Michigan Wolverines have been one of the best teams this season in college football, however, they are dealing with a lot of distractions off the field stemming from the sign-stealing allegations. However, the Wolverines enter this game undefeated with a record of 9-0 and ranked 3rd in the College Football Playoff Rankings. The Wolverines have the best defensive scoring teams in college football this season as they are allowing the fewest amount of points per game with an average of 6.67 points per game and their defense has scored more touchdowns than they have allowed this year. None of Michigan’s games have been decided by less than 24 points which is impressive even though they have not faced a Top 25 team this year, however, that will change on Saturday afternoon when they travel to face the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Penn State is still alive for a spot in the Big Ten Championship game, however, they will need the Ohio State Buckeyes to lose two games to make it to the championship game as they have already lost to the Buckeyes by a score of 12-20 earlier this season. The Nittany Lions will be looking to hand the Wolverines their first loss of the season as they enter this game ranked 10th in the College Football Playoff Rankings with an overall record of 8-1 and a Big Ten Record of 5-1 which puts them in 3rd place in the Big Ten East Division. The Penn State Nittany Lions enter this game on a two-game winning streak and are coming off a dominating performance on the road against the Maryland Terrapins in which they won by a score of 51-15 while covering the 7.5-point spread on the road. Drew Allar played a pivotal role in the win as he completed 25 of 34 attempts for 240 yards and four touchdowns, however, things will be a lot tougher as he will go up against one of the best defenses in college football this season when the Nittany Lions host the Wolverines on Saturday afternoon.

BookMaker has the Michigan Wolverines listed as 4.5-point favorites on the road against the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday afternoon in week 11 of the college football season. Michigan has won six of the last ten and two of the last three meetings while going 7-3 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Michigan Wolverines are 4-4-1 ATS overall, 3-0 ATS on the road, 4-4-1 ATS as a favorite, and 4-1-1 ATS in conference games this season while the Penn State Nittany Lions are 7-2 ATS overall, 4-1 ATS at home, 0-1 ATS as an underdog, and 4-2 ATS in conference games this season.

Michigan has not only been one of the most dominant teams in college football this season but they have also been the dominant team at covering the spread in the series against Penn State going 7-3 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three meetings. The Wolverines are also 4-1-1 ATS in conference games and have covered the spread in their road games going 3-0 ATS on the road this year which is why I am buying the .5 point and laying the points with the Michigan Wolverines when they travel to face the Penn State Nittany Lions.
