College Football Betting Preview: Mountain West Championship - Boise St Broncos vs. UNLV Rebels

December 2, 2023

The 2023 Mountain West Championship game will take place on Saturday afternoon when the Boise State Broncos travel to Paradise, Nevada to face the UNLV Rebels at Allegiant Stadium with the game scheduled to start at 3:00 PM ET and will air on Fox.

The Boise State Broncos enter this game with a record of 7-5 which included a record of 6-2 in the Mountain West Conference and are on a three-game winning streak following a 27-19 win at home against the Air Force Falcons last week.

The Broncos relied on an explosive offense that relied on a heavy running game this season as they enter this game averaging 32 points per game while averaging the 10th most rushing yards per game with an average of 207.5 rushing yards per game. Ashton Jeanty played a pivotal role in the success that the Broncos had running the ball this season as he enters this game with 1,113 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The scoring defense for Boise State was also slightly above average as they allowed an average of 25.25 points per game during the regular season. The Boise State Broncos will be playing in the 7th Mountain West Championship game and have won three of their previous six appearances in the championship game.

UNLV was the biggest surprise team in the Mountain West this season as they entered the season at +1800 to win the conference and were expected to be the 8th-best team in the conference this season.

However, they finished tied for 1st in the conference with a record of 6-2 in conference play and a record of 9-3 overall. However, the Rebels saw their three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday when they lost at home against the San Jose State Spartans by a score of 31-37.

The success the UNLV Rebels have had this season can be attributed to offense as they enter this game averaging 35.5 points per game which ranks 19th in college football and had one of the best rushing offenses in college football this season as they averaged 189 rushing yards per game during the regular season. UNLV featured a trio of running backs to lead their running game with Vincent Davis Jr., Jai’Den Thomas, and Donavyn Lester whole combined for 26 rushing touchdowns this season.

The UNLV Rebels will be playing in their first Mountain West Championship game on Saturday afternoon when they host the Boise State Broncos.

BookMaker has the Boise State Broncos listed as 2.5-point favorites on the road against the UNLV Rebels on Saturday afternoon in the Mountain West Championship game. Boise State has won the five games all-time in the series while winning by an average margin of 24.4 points per game all-time and 23.33 points per game over the last three meetings.

The Rebels are 3-2 ATS all-time while the Broncos are 2-1 ATS in the last three matchups. The Boise State Broncos are 6-4-2 ATS overall, 1-4-1 ATS on the road, 5-2-1 ATS as a favorite, and 4-3-1 ATS in conference games this season while the UNLV Rebels are 10-2 ATS overall, 4-2 ATS at home, 5-0 ATS as an underdog, and 6-2 ATS in conference games on the year.

UNLV enters this game with a better record and has been the better team at covering the spread in the series as they are 3-2 ATS all-time. The Rebels have also been the best team in the Mountain West at covering the spread as they are 10-2 ATS overall, 4-2 ATS at home, and have covered the spread in every game they have been an underdog as they are 5-0 ATS as an underdog while the Broncos are 1-4-1 ATS on the road. As a result, I am buying the .5 point and taking the points with the UNLV Rebels in the Mountain West Championship game.
