College Football Betting Preview: N. Illinois Huskies vs. W. Michigan Broncos

November 14, 2023

The Western Michigan Broncos will travel to DeKalb, Illinois to face the Northern Illinois Huskies at Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium in a battle of two MAC teams with the game kicking off at 7:00 PM Tuesday night and will air on ESPNU in week 12 of the college football season.

Western Michigan needs to win their final two games this season to qualify for a bowl game after missing a bowl game last season as they enter this game with a record of 4-6 and have a record of 3-3 in conference play. The Broncos have won their previous two games against in-state rivals with a win on the road against the Eastern Michigan Eagles by a score of 45-21 and the Central Michigan Chippewas by a score of 38-28 while covering the 3-point spread as a home favorite. The Western Michigan Broncos will be facing a team this week that is also in need of winning their final two games this season when they face the Northern Illinois Huskies in week 12 of the college football season.

The Northern Illinois Huskies were looking like one of the best teams in the MAC this season as they started off conference play with a record of 3-1 and had a close loss on the road against the Toledo Rockets, however, since then the Huskies have lost their last two games including last week’s 17-20 loss at home against the Ball State Cardinals while failing to cover the 9-point spread as a home favorite. Turnovers killed any chance Northern Illinois had of winning last week as they were -3 in the turnover battle including a fumble on their last possession which led to a game-winning field goal for the Ball State Cardinals. Things won’t get any easier this week as they will be facing a team in desperate need of a win when they host the Western Michigan Broncos on Tuesday night.

BookMaker has the Northern Illinois Huskies listed as 4-point favorites at home against the Western Michigan Broncos on Tuesday night in week 12 of the college football season. Northern Illinois has won six of the last ten while Western Michigan has won two of the last three meetings. The Huskies are 6-4 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Western Michigan Broncos are 7-3 ATS overall, 4-2 ATS on the road, 3-3 ATS as an underdog, and 5-1 ATS in conference games this season while the Northern Illinois Huskies are 4-6 ATS overall, 1-4 ATS at home, 1-5 ATS as a favorite, and 3-3 ATS in conference games on the year.

Western Michigan has been one of the best teams in the MAC at covering the spread this season as they are 7-3 ATS overall and 5-1 ATS in conference play while the Northern Illinois Huskies have been one of the worst teams at covering the spread at home going 1-4 ATS at home and 1-5 ATS as a favorite. As a result, I am taking the points with the Western Michigan Broncos when they travel to face the Northern Illinois Huskies.
