College Football Betting Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Colorado Buffaloes

September 9, 2023

This matchup features a team looking for their first win under their new head coach against a team who pulled off one of the biggest upsets in week 1 under their new head coach as the Nebraska Cornhuskers travel to take on the Colorado Buffaloes in week 2 of the college football season. Will the Buffaloes improve their record to 2-0 and already surpass their win total from last season or will the Cornhuskers get the win on the road? Let’s take a look at how these teams fared in week 1 of the college football season.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers enter this game with a record of 0-1 following a 10-13 loss on the road against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in week 1 of the college football season, however, Nebraska covered the 7.5-point spread as a road underdog. Nebraska scored 10 points while compiling 295 total yards defensively which included 114 passing yards and 181 rushing yards while allowing 13 points and 251 total yards defensively which included 196 passing yards and 55 rushing yards.

Jeff Sims led the team in passing, completing 11 of 19 attempts for 114 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions while rushing for 91 yards on 19 attempts. Alex Bullock led the team in receiving, catching all three targets for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Colorado enters this game following a 45-42 win on the road against the TCU Horned Frogs in week 1 of the college football season and covering the 21-point spread as an underdog by winning outright. The Buffaloes scored 45 points while compiling 565 total yards offensively which included 510 passing yards and 55 rushing yards while allowing 42 points and 541 total yards defensively which included 279 passing yards and 262 rushing yards.

Shedeur Sanders led the team in passing, completing 38 of 47 attempts for 510 yards with four touchdowns. Sy’veon Wilkerson led the team in rushing with 13 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown. Dylan Edwards led the team in receiving, catching all five targets for 135 yards and three touchdowns.

BookMaker has the Colorado Buffaloes listed as 2.5-point favorites at home against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in week 2 of the college football season. Nebraska has won six of the last ten while Colorado has won two of the last three while going 6-4 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series.

Nebraska is 1-0 ATS overall, 1-0 ATS on the road, and 1-0 ATS as an underdog this season after finishing last season with a record of 5-7 ATS overall, 2-2 ATS on the road, and 4-3 ATS as an underdog while Colorado is 1-0 ATS overall this season after finishing last year with a record of 2-10 ATS overall and 2-4 ATS at home.

Colorado is an improved team, however, they have had to listen to how great of a team they are this past week and TCU is not as good as they were in 2022. I look for the hype surrounding the Buffaloes to be a letdown this week in their home opener against the Nebraska Cornhuskers which is why I am taking the money line for the Nebraska Cornhuskers on the road at +126 on BookMaker for this matchup on Saturday afternoon.
