College Football Betting Preview: Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons

November 18, 2023

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will travel to Notre Dame, Indiana to face the 19th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday afternoon in week 12 of the college football season with the game kicking off at 3:30 PM ET and will air on NBC and the Peacock App.

Wake Forest was one of the better teams in the ACC last season, however, this season and after Sam Hartman transferred to Notre Dame, the Demon Deacons have not been close to as good as they were last season. They enter this game with a record of 4-6 which includes a 1-6 record in the ACC and puts them in last place in the conference while needing to win their final two games this season to make a bowl game for the 9th consecutive season. The scoring offense for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons has struggled this season as they are averaging 20.5 points per game while having a slightly above-average scoring defense that is allowing an average of 24.6 points per game. Wake Forest will have a hard time getting to six wins as they will be going up against their former starting quarterback when the Demon Deacons travel to face the Fighting Irish on Saturday afternoon.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were in the College Football Playoff talk at the beginning of the season as they started the year with a record of 4-0 and should have defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes, however, they lost to the Buckeyes by a score of 14-17 and have gone 3-3 since their 4-0 start and saw their two-game winning streak come to an end last Saturday with a 23-31 loss on the road against the Clemson Tigers. The offense for the Fighting Irish has been one of the highest-scoring teams this season in college football as they enter this game averaging 36.8 points per game which ranks 16th in college football. The success that Notre Dame has had offensively can be attributed to Wake Forest’s former starting quarterback, Sam Hartman, who enters this game having completed 162 of 258 attempts for 2,272 yards with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions as well as their leading running back, Audric Estime, who has 988 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 163 carries.

BookMaker has the Notre Dame Fighting Irish listed as 24.5-point favorites at home against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday afternoon in week 12 of the college football season. Notre Dame has won the five games all-time in the series and has won by an average margin of 21.2 points per game all-time and 20.33 points per game in the last three meetings. The Demon Deacons are 3-2 ATS all-time and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are 4-6 ATS overall, 2-2 ATS on the road, and 3-3 ATS as an underdog this season while the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 6-3-1 ATS overall, 3-1-1 ATS at home, and 6-3 ATS as a favorite on the year.

Wake Forest will be looking for revenge in this matchup against their former quarterback Sam Hartman and is in desperate need of a win because with a loss they aren’t likely to make a bowl game for the 9th consecutive season. However, Notre Dame has been the better team in the series, winning the five games all-time, and has been the better team at covering the spread this season going 6-3-1 ATS overall while the Demon Deacons are 4-6 ATS overall. Buy the .5 point and lay the points with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish when they host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday.
