College Football Betting Preview: Ohio St Buckeyes vs. Michigan St Spartans

November 11, 2023

The Michigan State Spartans will travel to Columbus, Ohio to face the #1-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium on Sunday evening with the game scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 PM ET and will air on NBC and the Peacock App in week 11 of the college football season.

The Michigan State Spartans have been one of the worst teams in the Big Ten this season and have looked like they have given up on the season after the firing of head coach, Mel Tucker, earlier this season. The Spartans have only won one game in conference play which came last week at home against the Nebraska Cornhuskers while covering the 3-point spread as a home underdog by winning the game outright which also ended their six-game losing streak and improved their record to 3-6 on the year which still gives them a slim hope of making a bowl game this season if they were to win out, however, that is unlikely to happen as they have to still play Ohio State and Penn State.

Ohio State has had one of the hardest schedules in college football this season, however, they have not lost a game this year with their two best wins coming against the Penn State Nittany Lions at home by a score of 20-12 and on the road against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish by a score of 17-14. Their strength of schedule has been one of the most important things as they are ranked 1st in the College Football Playoff Rankings as they have had a tougher schedule than both the Georgia Bulldogs and the Michigan Wolverines. The Buckeyes have had one of the best defenses in college football this season as they are allowing an average of 10.67 points per game which ranks 2nd in college football and only one spot lower than the Michigan Wolverines.

BookMaker has the Ohio State Buckeyes listed as 31-point favorites at home against the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday evening in week 11 of the college football season. Ohio State has won eight of the last ten including the previous seven meetings in a row. The Buckeyes are 7-3 ATS in the last ten and 3-0 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Michigan State Spartans are 4-4-1 ATS overall, 1-1-1 ATS on the road, 2-4-1 ATS as an underdog, and 2-3-1 ATS in conference games this season while the Ohio State Buckeyes are 5-3-1 ATS overall, 3-1 ATS at home, 5-3-1 ATS as a favorite, and 4-2 ATS in conference games on the year.

Ohio State is arguably the best team in college football this season and has dominated the series against the Michigan State Spartans winning eight of the last ten including the previous seven matchups in a row while also going 7-3 ATS in the last ten and 3-0 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Buckeyes have also been one of the best teams in conference play at covering the spread going 4-2 ATS in their conference games while the Spartans are 2-4-1 ATS in their conference games. I look for these trends to continue which is why I am laying the points with the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday evening.
