College Football Betting Preview: Oklahoma Sooners vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

November 11, 2023

A pair of Big 12 teams will face each other in the primetime spot on Fox in week 11 of the college football season when the West Virginia Mountaineers travel to Norman, Oklahoma to face the 17th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM ET on Saturday evening.

The West Virginia Mountaineers have quickly bounced back from a disappointing season last year in which they failed to make a bowl game for the first time since the 2019 college football season as they enter this game tied for 3rd place in the Big 12 Conference with the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas State Wildcats, Oklahoma Sooners, and Iowa State Cyclones with the winner of this matchup staying alive for the Big 12 Championship game and the loser all but certain eliminated from the Conference Championship picture. The Mountaineers are on a two-game winning streak following a 37-7 win at home against the BYU Cougars while covering the 12.5-point spread as a home favorite and the offense has looked like one of the best offenses in the Big 12 over the last four games as they have averaged 35.25 points per game over that span and will look to carry that momentum when they travel to face the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday.

Oklahoma looked like they were going to play themselves into the National Championship picture early on in the season as they started the season with a record of 7-0, however, following a close win at home against the UCF Knights by a score of 31-29, the Sooners have lost their last two games this season including last week’s loss against their in-state rival, the Oklahoma State Cowboys by a score of 24-27. The offense for the Sooners still looks like one of the best offenses in the conference, however, their defense has struggled over the last two games allowing 38 points against the Jayhawks and 27 points against the Cowboys. The Sooners will be looking to end their losing streak when they host the West Virginia Mountaineers in week 11 of the college football season.

BookMaker has the Oklahoma Sooners listed as 12.5-point favorites at home against the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday evening in week 11 of the college football season. Oklahoma has won nine of the last ten and two of the last three meetings, however, they lost the game last season on the road by a score of 20-23 which ended a nine-game winning streak against the Mountaineers. The Sooners are 5-4-1 ATS in the last ten while the Mountaineers are 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The West Virginia Mountaineers are 6-3 ATS overall, 2-2 ATS on the road, 3-1 ATS as an underdog, and 4-2 ATS in conference games this season while the Oklahoma Sooners are 6-3 ATS overall, 3-1 ATS at home, 5-3 ATS as a favorite, and 3-3 ATS in conference games on the year.

Oklahoma has dominated the series against the West Virginia Mountaineers, winning nine of the last ten games, however, the Mountaineers have been the better team most recently in the series at covering the spread as they are 2-1 ATS in the last three meetings. The Mountaineers are 3-1 ATS this season as an underdog which is why I am buying the .5 point and taking the points with the West Virginia Mountaineers.
