College Football Betting Preview: Ole Miss Rebels vs. Vanderbilt Commodores

October 28, 2023

The Vanderbilt Commodores will travel to Oxford, Mississippi to face the 12th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday evening in week 9 of the college football season with the game airing at 7:30 PM ET on the SEC Network.

Vanderbilt enters this game with a record of 2-6 following a 20-37 loss at home against the Georgia Bulldogs while covering the 32.5-point spread as a home underdog in week 7 of the college football season. The Commodores scored 20 points while compiling a total of 219 yards offensively which included 201 passing yards and 18 rushing yards while allowing 37 points and 541 total yards defensively which included 260 passing yards and 281 rushing yards. Ken Seals led the team in passing, completing 19 of 29 attempts for 201 yards with two touchdowns and an interception Sedrick Alexander led the team in rushing with six carries for 16 yards and a touchdown while adding two receptions for 16 yards. Jayden McGowan led the team in receiving, catching all five targets for 58 yards.

The Ole Miss Rebels enter this game ranked 12th in the AP Poll and 11th in the Coaches Poll with a record of 6-1 following a 28-21 win on the road against the Auburn Tigers while covering the 6.5-point spread as a road favorite in week 8 of the college football season. Ole Miss scored 28 points while compiling a total of 425 yards offensively which included 202 passing yards and 223 rushing yards while allowing 21 points and 275 total yards defensively which included 122 passing yards and 153 rushing yards. Jaxson Dart led the team in passing, completing 10 of 17 targets for 202 yards with a touchdown and an interception while adding 44 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 attempts. Quinshon Judkins led the team in rushing with 21 carries for 124 yards and a touchdown. Tre Harris led the team in receiving, catching four of eight targets for 102 yards.

BookMaker has the Ole Miss Rebels listed as 24.5-point favorites at home against the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday evening in week 9 of the college football season. Ole Miss has won eight of the last ten including the previous four matchups in a row while going 6-4 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Vanderbilt Commodores are 1-7 ATS overall, 0-3 ATS on the road, 1-4 ATS as an underdog, and 1-3 ATS in conference games this season while the Ole Miss Rebels are 5-2 ATS overall, 3-1 ATS at home, 4-1 ATS as a favorite, and 2-2 ATS in conference games on the year.

Vanderbilt is the worst team in the SEC this season and has been the worst team in the conference at covering the spread going 1-7 ATS overall which doesn’t bode well for them in a series in which they have lost eight of the last ten while going 4-6 ATS in those matchups. Ole Miss has been one of the best teams at covering the spread going 5-2 ATS overall this season and I look for that trend to continue in this matchup which is why I am buying the .5 point and laying the points with the Ole Miss Rebels when they host the Vanderbilt Commodores.
