College Football Betting Preview: South Florida Bulls vs. UTSA Roadrunners

November 17, 2023

A pair of AAC teams will face each other on Friday night when the South Florida Bulls travel to San Antonio, Texas to face the UTSA Roadrunners at the Alamodome with the game scheduled to kickoff at 9:00 PM ET and will air on ESPN 2 in week 12 of the college football season.

The South Florida Bulls need to win one of their next two games to qualify for a bowl game for the 1st time since the 2018 college football season, however, they have already made a significant improvement this season under 1st year head coach, Alex Golesh, as they enter this game with a record of 5-5 after only winning one game last year. Their offense has been one of the key factors for the improvement this season as they enter this game averaging 30.1 points per game and Byrum Brown has played a significant role in the improvement this season on offense as he enters this game having completed 212 of 332 attempts for 2,538 yards with 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions while rushing for 659 yards and nine touchdowns. South Florida is coming off a 27-23 win at home against the Temple Owls in week 11, however, they will be facing a much tougher opponent this week when they travel to face the UTSA Roadrunners on Friday night.

The UTSA Roadrunners have not lost a game in AAC Conference play as they enter this game with a record of 6-0 in their conference games while having an overall record of 7-3 which puts them in a three-way tie with the Tulane Green Wave and the SMU Mustangs, the Roadrunners will not have to face the Mustangs this season, however, they will face the Green Wave next week in the season finale in what will determine one of the teams in the AAC Championship game assuming UTSA defeats South Florida on Friday night. The Roadrunners have had one of the better offenses in college football this season as they enter this game averaging 31.5 points per game while allowing 24.6 points per game. UTSA has a three-headed monster in their running offense this season as Kevorian Barnes, Robert Henry, and Rocko Griffin have combined for 1,483 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns and have played a pivotal role in the success that the Roadrunners have had this season.

BookMaker has the UTSA Roadrunners listed as 15.5-point favorites at home against the South Florida Bulls on Friday night in week 12 of the college football season. This will be the first time in the history of these two programs that they will face each other in college football. The South Florida Bulls are 5-5 ATS overall, 3-2 ATS on the road, 5-1 ATS as an underdog, and 3-3 ATS in conference games this season while the UTSA Roadrunners are 4-6 ATS overall, 2-3 ATS at home, 4-5 ATS as a favorite, and 4-2 ATS in conference games on the year.

UTSA enters this game with a better record and has been the better team at covering the spread in conference games as they are 4-2 ATS in conference games this season while the UTSA Roadrunners are 3-3 in their conference games. I look for that trend to continue on Friday night which is why I am buying the .5 point and laying the points with the UTSA Roadrunners when they host the South Florida Bulls.
