College Football Betting Preview: Washington Huskies vs. Stanford Cardinal

October 28, 2023

The 5th ranked Washington Huskies will travel to Stanford, California to face the Stanford Cardinal at Stanford Stadium in a battle of two Pac-12 teams with the game airing at 7:00 PM ET on Saturday evening in week 9 of the college football season on Fox Sports 1.

The Washington Huskies enter this game ranked 5th in the AP Poll and 5th in the Coaches Poll with a record of 7-0 following a 15-7 win at home against the Arizona State Sun Devils while failing to cover the 28-point spread as a home favorite in week 8 of the college football season. Washington scored 15 points while compiling a total of 280 yards offensively which included 266 passing yards and 14 rushing yards while allowing 7 points and 341 total yards defensively which included 194 passing yards and 147 rushing yards.

Michael Penix Jr. led the team in passing, completing 27 of 42 attempts for 266 yards and two interceptions. Will Nixon led the team in rushing with one carry for 13 yards while adding two receptions for 10 yards. Ja’Lynn Polk led the team in receiving, catching nine of 13 targets for 94 yards.

Stanford enters this game with a record of 2-5 following a 7-42 loss at home against the UCLA Bruins while failing to cover the 17-point spread as a home underdog in week 8 of the college football season. The Cardinal scored 7 points while compiling a total of 292 yards offensively which included 268 passing yards and 24 rushing yards while allowing 42 points and 503 total yards defensively which included 282 passing yards and 221 rushing yards.

Ashton Daniels led the team in passing, completing 27 of 45 attempts for 268 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Sedrick Irvin led the team in rushing with three carries for 16 yards. Epic Ayomanor led the team in receiving, catching eight of 13 targets for 90 yards.

BookMaker has the Washington Huskies listed as 26.5-point favorites on the road against the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday evening in week 9 of the college football season. Stanford has won six of the last ten while Washington has won two of the last three games in the series. Both teams are 5-5 ATS in the last ten while the Huskies are 2-1 ATS in the last three meetings. The Washington Huskies are 3-3-1 ATS overall, 1-1 ATS on the road, 3-3-1 ATS as a favorite, and 1-2-1 ATS in conference games this season while the Stanford Cardinal are 3-4 ATS overall, 1-3 ATS at home, 2-3 ATS as an underdog, and 2-3 ATS in conference games on the year.

Washington is the best team in the Pac-12 this season while the Stanford Cardinal are one of the worst teams, however, Stanford has been the better team overall in the last ten meetings winning six of those ten. I look for Washington to get the win, however, 26.5 points is a lot to give up especially after a struggle win against the Arizona State Sun Devils which is why I am buying the .5 point and taking the points with the Stanford Cardinal when they host the Washington Huskies in week 9 of the college football season on Saturday evening.
