Denver Nuggets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

January 31, 2024

Two of the best teams in the Western Conference will face each other on Wednesday night when the Denver Nuggets travel to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to face the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Paycom Center with the game tipping off at 8:00 PM ET and will air on Bally Sports Oklahoma.

The reigning NBA Champion, Denver Nuggets, have been one of the best teams in the Western Conference this season with a record of 33-15 which puts them in 2nd place in the conference and gives them the 3rd best record in the league. Nikola Jokic is one of the best players in the NBA and has been one of the pivotal players for the Nuggets this season as he leads the team in scoring, rebounds, assists, and blocks with an average of 26.3 points, 12.1 rebounds, 9 assists, and 0.91 blocks per game and is tied for 3rd with Anthony Davis in rebounds in the NBA while averaging the 4th most assists per game.

The Nuggets have been a below-average team offensively this season as they are averaging 115.04 points per game which is less than the league average of 115.57 points per game, however, they have been one of the top defensive teams in the NBA as they are allowing the 5th fewest points per game with an average of 110.92 points allowed per game. The Denver Nuggets will look to extend their winning streak to three games when they travel to face the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have the 3rd best record in the Western Conference this season at 32-15, however, they are on a two-game losing streak following Monday’s 101-107 loss at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The success of the Thunder this season can be attributed to their offensive play as they are averaging the 3rd most points per game in the NBA with an average of 120.77 points per game.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has been one of the main catalysts for the success of Oklahoma City, has had offensively as he leads the team in scoring and assists with an average of 31.3 points and 6.4 assists per game with 31.3 points per game being the 3rd most in the NBA this year.

Defensively, Oklahoma City has been above average as they rank 13th in the NBA in points allowed per game with an average of 112.91 points allowed per game. The Oklahoma City Thunder will look to end their two-game losing streak when they host the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.

BookMaker has the Oklahoma City Thunder listed as 1.5-point favorites at home against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night. Denver has won six of the last ten while Oklahoma City has won two of the previous three meetings. The Thunder have covered the spread in seven of the last ten and two of the previous three matchups in the series. The Denver Nuggets are 20-26-2 ATS overall, 8-16-1 ATS on the road, and 2-3 ATS as an underdog this season while the Oklahoma City Thunder are 30-16-1 ATS overall, 16-7 ATS at home, and 20-11 ATS as a favorite on the year.

Denver enters this game with a slightly better record, however, Oklahoma City has been the better team most recently in the series, winning two of the previous three contests. The Thunder have covered the spread in seven of the last ten and two of the previous three games in the series while also having been one of the best teams at covering the spread this season with a record of 30-16-1 ATS overall and 16-7 ATS at home which is why I am buying the .5 point and laying the point with the Oklahoma City Thunder when they host the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.
