Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams

September 8, 2024

Written By: Evan Perkins

The Los Angeles Rams and Detroit Lions will play in Week 1 of NFL action on Sunday, September 8, at 8:20 PM ET at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The Lions are slightly favored, with a point spread currently at -4.5 (-110).

Los Angeles Rams Betting Preview

The Rams finished 10-7 in the NFC West and came up short 24-23 against the Lions in a Wild Card battle last season. This game will have more attention and emotion than a typical regular season game, as both teams have again playoff hopes.

The offense will be fun to watch again this season. With Sean McVay at the helm and Matthew Stafford producing quality offense, the team is in good shape. They also have excellent receivers in Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, as well as running back Kyren Williams, who had a tremendous season last year.

The only issue with this team is its defensive capabilities. They lost their three-time Defensive Player of the Year, Aaron Donald, to retirement and have a lot of younger talent who came in through the draft.

The Rams scored 23.8 points per game last year, ranking eighth. On defense, they struggled, allowing 22.2 points each matchup and ranking 19th. If their defense struggles, their offense will likely not make the difference.

Detroit Lions Betting Preview

The Lions easily went 12-5 in the NFC North but lost 34-31 to the San Francisco 49ers in the Conference Finals last year. They will aim to regain that success here with a statement victory.

The offense shined last year, with Jared Goff once again producing a great performance. One key aspect of their offense was Amon-Ra St. Brown, who had a sensational season and broke out as one of the better wide receivers in the game.

Their defense put up stops when it mattered, as they had the second-best defense when stopping the running game. They added some key talent to their defense, including DJ Reeder, to an already stacked run defense. Their main weakness is their secondary, which could pose some issues.

The Lions accumulated 27.1 points a game last year, good for fifth overall. Defensively, they need some work, but they allowed 23.2 points a game and ranked 23rd.
