Detroit Lions vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

January 21, 2024

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will travel to Detroit, Michigan to face the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday afternoon with the game kicking off at 3:00 PM ET and will air on NBC and the Peacock App.

Tampa Bay advanced to the Divisional round of the NFC Playoffs by dominating the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round on Monday by a score of 32-9 and outgained the Eagles 426 to 276 total yards on offense while Baker Mayfield torched the secondary of the Eagles, completing 22 of 36 attempts for 337 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Buccaneers were a below-average team on offense this season as they averaged 21.11 points per game, however, they were one of the best defensive teams as they allowed the 5th fewest points per game with an average of 18.56 points allowed per game. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will look to extend their winning streak to three games and advance to the NFC Championship game with a win on the road against the Detroit Lions.

For the first time in 31 years, the Detroit Lions hosted a playoff game and won the playoff game as they had not hosted a playoff game since the 1991 season in which they made it all the way to the NFC Championship game but lost to the Washington Redskins. Detroit defeated the Los Angeles Rams at home by a score of 24-23, however, they were outgained by the Rams 425 of 334 total yards on offense. The success of the Lions this season can be attributed to their offensive play as they were the 5th highest-scoring team in the league averaging 26.94 points per game while having the 6th best rushing offense and the 3rd best passing offense in the NFL.

However, their secondary could keep them from the ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl as they have been one of the worst in the league this season. The Lions are allowing the 3rd most passing yards per game with an average of 253.44 passing yards allowed per game. The Detroit Lions will look to advance to the NFC Championship for the first time since the 1991 season when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon.

BookMaker has the Detroit Lions listed as 6.5-point favorites at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon. Detroit has won six of the last ten while Tampa Bay has won two of the previous three meetings. The Lions are 6-4 ATS in the last ten while the Buccaneers have covered the spread in two of the last three games in the series.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 12-6 ATS overall, 8-1 ATS on the road, and 9-3 ATS as an underdog this season while the Detroit Lions are 12-6 ATS overall, 5-4 ATS at home, and 10-5 ATS as a favorite on the year.

The Lions enter this game with a better record and will be playing at home, however, Tampa Bay matches up extremely well against Detroit as the Buccaneers rely on their passing game on offense while the Lions have been one of the worst teams at defending the pass this season.

The Buccaneers have also been the better team most recently in the series, winning two of the last three while covering the spread in two of the last three matchups which is why I am buying the .5 point and taking the points with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when they travel to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon in the NFC Divisional Round.
