Detroit Pistons vs. Charlotte Hornets

January 24, 2024

Two of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference will face off against each other on Wednesday evening when the Charlotte Hornets travel to Detroit, Michigan to face the Detroit Pistons at the Little Caesars Arena with the game tipping off at 7:00 PM ET on Wednesday evening and will air on Bally Sports Charlotte and Bally Sports Detroit.

Charlotte enters this game with a record of 10-31 which gives the Hornets the 3rd worst record in the Eastern Conference, however, Charlotte has won two of their last three games including Monday’s 128-125 win on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Hornets finally have many of their key players healthy after LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges, and Gordon Hayward have missed multiple games which has hurt their offensive production as the Hornets are averaging the 3rd fewest points per game with an average of 108.8 points per game while also being a below-average team defensively as they are allowing an average of 119.93 points per game.

LaMelo Ball has been one of the better players on the team and leads the team in scoring and assists with an average of 24.7 points and 8.1 assists per game. The Charlotte Hornets will look to build off the momentum following the win against the Timberwolves when they travel to face the Detroit Pistons.

The Detroit Pistons have the worst record in the NBA at 4-39 and are on a three-game losing streak following Monday’s 113-122 loss at home against the Milwaukee Bucks. Detroit is averaging the 7th fewest points per game while allowing the 3rd most points per game with an average of 112.44 points per game while allowing an average of 123.02 points per game. Cade Cunningham has been one of the better players on the team and leads the team in scoring and assists with an average of 22.8 points and 7.3 assists per game. The Detroit Pistons will look to end their three-game losing streak when they host the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday evening.

BookMaker has the Charlotte Hornets listed as 2-point favorites on the road against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday evening. Charlotte has won six of the last ten and two of the last three meetings. The teams are 5-5 ATS in the last ten while the Hornets have covered the spread in two of the last three games in the series. The Charlotte Hornets are 16-25 ATS overall, 8-14 ATS on the road, and 0-4 ATS as a favorite this season while the Detroit Pistons are 19-23-1 ATS overall, 9-12-1 ATS at home, and 19-20-1 ATS as an underdog on the year.

Charlotte enters this game with the better record and has been the better team in the series, winning six of the last ten and two of the last three matchups. The Hornets have also been the better team at covering the spread in the series, going 2-1 ATS in the last three contests. I look for those trends to continue which is why I am laying the points with the Charlotte Hornets when they travel to face the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday evening.
