The Detroit Tigers and the Seattle Mariners continue their three-game set with the second series game Wednesday night inside T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington. They toss out the first pitch at 9:40 pm.
Bookmaker has installed the Mariners -125 on the ML.
The Mariners have been a delightful surprise this season and have shown a ton of staying power as they give the Houston Astros a run for their money in the AL West. They have recently overtaken the Astors as the division lead, and this is a crucial series for them. They do not want to lose momentum in the future, knowing Houston is a veteran team that knows how to win and win late in the season.
On offense, Seattle is keyed by several players, including emerging catcher Cal Raleigh, who has cracked a team-high 23 home runs with 67 RBI. His batting average is not good at all, as he is only hitting .214 on the season, but the team seems to lead by his example, and if the rest of the lineup can start hitting again, they will be a dangerous team heading into September and perhaps the playoffs
The Mariners will hand the ball over to George Kirby, who has a mark of 8-7 and an ERA of 3.04. He has fanned 131 hitters in 136 innings of work and needs to get going and go at least five-plus innings in this one.
The Tigers have yet to have the type of success the Mariners have had and will be on the outside looking in once the playoffs roll around. They are a whopping 14 1/2 games back of the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Central and have no shot of digging themselves out of the basement.
They have a couple of pieces they hope to build around as the team goes forward. But they also know they need more power in their lineup. They have had issues scoring runs consistently this season and currently have a run differential of -24, which is not bad but not even remotely good.
They might be without left-fielder Riley Greene, who, according to reports, took batting practice Saturday. However, the outfielder has yet to resume full running, and if he can not go, the Tigers will lose his power in the lineup. He has cracked 17 home runs this season and has driven in 51 runs, too.
They will toss out 27-year-old Tarik Skubal, who has posted a record of 12-4 and has pitched well this season. He has won two out of his last three starts.
The Mariners are 3-2 in their last five games and 3-2 in their previous five games against the spread. They are 25-31 in their road games against the spread. The totals have gone over in three out of their last five games. The totals have gone in 19 out of their last 57 games at home.
The Tigers are 1-4 in their last five games and 2-3 in their previous five games against the spread. The Tigers are 30-26 in their road games against the spread. The totals have gone over in two out of their last five games.
