Everton vs West Ham United
March 2, 2024
Spooky Express previews Saturday's Premier League clash between Everton and West Ham United, including betting predictions, team news and possible starting XIs.
Everton welcome West Ham United at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Toffees claimed a 1-0 victory at the London Stadium in October when Dominic Calvert-Lewin's second half strike made the difference.
There was exactly one goal scored in each of the sides' last three meetings at Goodison Park as the Hammers won two in a row in 2021 (January and October), but Everton won their last home match against West Ham United in September 2022.
Everton Betting Preview (+105 at Everygame)
With five draws in their six top-flight matches in 2024, Everton return to Premier League action with some much-needed breathing space over the bottom three.
The Toffees gladly welcomed the news that their point deduction had been decreased from 10 points to six, which instantly moved them five points clear of 18
th
-place Luton Town, who still have a game in hand.
Sean Dyche's side are winless in nine Premier League matches (losing four of them) and will be desperate to claim their first victory since they beat Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor on 16 December.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin's goal drought continued last weekend as the Englishman failed to score yet again. He couldn't score in his last 20 appearances for Everton and Calvert-Lewin's last goal came exactly against West Ham United in October.
Sean Dyche stated he will make late fitness calls on midfield pair Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye ahead of Everton's home match against West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
Elsewhere, Dyche remains without injured duo Arnaut Danjuma and Dele Alli, while Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes and Lewis Dobbin are also doubts.
West Ham United Betting Preview (+265 at Everygame)
David Moyes' side sit 8
th
in the Premier League table, level on points with Brighton in 7
th
and just five points behind Manchester United in sixth.
The Hammers travel to Merseyside after a 4-2 victory over Brentford at the London Stadium on Monday night. Thus, West Ham ended their three-game losing streak in the Premier League, where they failed to score in bad defeats to Manchester United (3-0), Arsenal (6-0) and Nottingham Forest (2-0) last month.
Furthermore, West Ham were on a six-game winless run in the league (0-3-3) - since their impressive 2-0 victory at Arsenal on 28 December - and the mounting pressure on David Moyes was finally released a bit.
Meanwhile, David Moyes' side are set to resume their Europa League campaign when they travel to Germany to face Bundesliga side SC Freiburg on Thursday evening.
Lucas Paqueta's return was a huge boost for the Hammers as the Brazilian playmaker inspired his side's 4-2 win over London rivals Brentford on Monday.
Paqueta should be ready to continue in a reunited front-three alongside Mohammed Kudus.and top scorer Jarrod Bowen, whose hat-trick against Brentford means he now has 14 league goals to his name in 2023-24.
With regard to West Ham's availability, Manchester City loanee Kalvin Phillips - whose start to life with the Hammers has been nothing short of nightmarish - has served his one-game suspension for his sending off against Nottingham Forest and is available for this weekend's trip to Merseyside.
Phillips's comeback means that David Moyes is currently blessed with an almost full squad for the trip north, as veteran Aaron Cresswell has shaken off an Achilles complaint, so only Maxwel Cornet will be out for a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury.
Yet, despite Kalvin Phillips's availability, we're not sure whether David Moyes would be willing to change the side that just beat Brentford.
Possible Starting Lineups of Everton and West Ham United
Everton: Jordan Pickford - Ben Godfrey, James Tarkowski, Jarrad Branthwaite, Vitalii Mykolenko - Jack Harrison, James Garner, Amadou Onana, Dwight McNeil - Abdoulaye Doucoure - Dominic Calvert-Lewin. (4-4-1-1)
West Ham United: Alphonse Areola - Vladimír Coufal, Kurt Zouma, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Emerson - Tomas Soucek, Edson Alvarez - Mohammed Kudus, James Ward-Prowse, Lucas Paqueta - Jarrod Bowen. (4-2-3-1)
Spooky Express Betting Predictions
Despite their poor form over the past months, Everton still boast one of the best defensive records in the Premier League as only the top three sides have shipped fewer goals than Sean Dyche's men this season - 34.
However, The Toffees must start winning more points and especially in a buoyant Goodison Park atmosphere, so we expect a tight clash between these two clubs.
West Ham United look dangerous with their front three of Lucas Paqueta, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen, so Everton's backline should be properly tested here.
