The 2023 Famous Toastery Bowl will be played on Monday afternoon when the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers face the Old Dominion Monarchs in Charlotte, North Carolina at Jerry Richardson Stadium with the game scheduled to start at 2:30 PM ET and will air on ESPN.

 

Western Kentucky finished the regular season with a record of 7-5 which led to a 4^th place finish in Conference USA while winning three of their last four games and are on a two-game winning streak following a 41-28 win on the road against the Florida International Panthers in their season finale.

 

The success for the Hilltoppers this season can be attributed to their passing offense as they ranked 15^th in college football in passing yards per game with an average of 281.08 passing yards per game and were an above-average scoring team as they are averaging 29.83 points per game. 

 

Austin Reed played a pivotal role in the success of the offense for Western Kentucky as he enters this game having completed 288 of 469 attempts for 3,317 yards with 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while rushing for 103 yards and four touchdowns. However, the scoring defense for the Hilltoppers struggled this season as they allowed an average of 28.17 points per game which is more than the national average of 25.76 points per game. The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers will look to end the season on a three-game winning streak when they play the Old Dominion Monarchs in the Famous Toastery Bowl.

 

The Old Dominion Monarchs finished in 3^rd place in the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference with a record of 6-6 and are on a two-game winning streak following a 25-24 win at home in the season finale against the Georgia State Panthers. Old Dominion was a slightly below-average scoring defense as they allowed an average of 26.25 points per game while also being one of the lowest-scoring teams in college football this season as they averaged 22.92 points per game.

 

The Monarchs will look to end the season with a winning record and a three-game winning streak when they play the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in the 2023 Famous Toastery Bowl on Monday afternoon.
