The 2023 Fenway Bowl will take place on Thursday, December 28^th, and will feature the 24^th-ranked SMU Mustangs and the Boston College Eagles in Boston, Massachusetts at Fenway Park with the game kicking off at 11:00 AM on Thursday morning and will air on ESPN.

 

The SMU Mustangs ended the regular season on a nine-game winning streak including a 26-14 win against the Tulane Green Wave in the American Athletic Championship game which was SMU’s first conference championship since the 1984 season which was right before the Mustangs received the “Death Penalty”. The success for the Mustangs this season can be attributed to their scoring defense as they enter this game allowing an average of 17.38 points per game which ranks 12^th in college football. 

 

SMU was also the 6^th highest-scoring team in the nation as they enter this game averaging 40.62 points per game while their passing offense was also one of the best in college football as they are averaging 277.92 passing yards per game. Preston Stone played a pivotal role in the success of the offense this season as he completed 206 of 344 attempts for 3,204 yards with 28 touchdowns and six interceptions while rushing for 198 yards and four touchdowns. The SMU Mustangs will look to extend their winning streak to ten games when they play the Boston College Eagles.

 

Boston College finished the season in 9^th place in the ACC with a record of 6-6 and ended the year on a three-game losing streak including a 20-45 loss at home against the Miami Hurricanes in their season finale. The defense struggled in the final three games for the Eagles as they allowed an average of 39 points per game and lost the three matchups by an average margin of 19.67 points per game.

 

The offense for Boston College was below-average this season as they enter this game averaging 25 points per game, however, they had one of the better rushing offenses in the nation as they are averaging 192.67 rushing yards per game which ranks 19^th in college football. 

 

The scoring defense for Boston College was also below-average as they enter this game allowing an average of 29.5 points per game. The Boston College Eagles will look to end the season with a winning record and end their three-game losing streak when they play the SMU Mustangs in the 2023 Texas Bowl.

This will be the first time in the history of these two programs that they will face each other in college football. The SMU Mustangs are 8-5 ATS overall and 7-3 ATS as a favorite this season while the Boston College Eagles are 4-8 ATS overall and 4-4 ATS as an underdog on the year.

 

SMU enters this game having won nine games straight while Boston College ended the season on a three-game losing streak. This could be one of the best bets of Bowl Season as SMU can score and the Eagles cannot defend so that does not bode well.  SMU also has a solid defense so this game could get ugly.
