The Hurricanes had a subpar season last year, going 7-6 and finishing 3-5 in confidence play (ACC). They were not strong on the road (2-3), which might not paint the best picture here.
Their offense got a big boost this season due to a few transfers bringing their talents here. Quarterback Cam Ward was arguably the best out of the transfer portal, and Damien Martinez, who put up a good season at Oregon State, is expected to bring a huge running game to the mix.
Defensively, they are stacked and should have an excellent line to mess with teams. They also have a few transfers and additions to the roster that could immediately make a strong impact.
The problem for the Hurricanes is that they might be relying too much on this talent (transfers, new signings) to immediately make an impact.This will be a big test to see if they can click.
The Gators went 5-7 last year and 3-5 in the SEC. They were at their best at home, going 4-2. Luckily, they get to kick off their season in their home stadium.
The biggest hurdle they had last year was their offensive line. Too many injuries and inconsistent play led to their demise. But, they appear to be healthy and to have added some talent from the transfer portal to fill in some gaps.
They have returning quarterback Graham Mertz who is familiar with the offense and can put up big numbers. In fact, he put up roughly 2,900 total yards with 20 touchdowns all while having a QBR of 69.3 (36th-best in nation).
The Gators had a lot of close calls last season that did not tip in their favor. These included several tough losses under 10 points to top 10 ranked teams.
