The 2023 Forego Stakes is an excellent showing of top-class horses for your betting pleasure. With only five horses competing, the competition will be fierce.

Everyone will be looking at Elite Power and Gunite for this event. Both of these top-notch horses last battled it out at the end of July in the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (G1), with Elite Power winning and Gunite in second.

Gunite 6/5

Gunite is no stranger to upsets, though this would be a minor one at best if he wins. Back in 2021, he had an 11/1 odds in the 2021 Hopeful Stakes (G1).

He placed second in the Amsterdam Stakes last year and was a runner-up in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes (G1) against the great Jack Christopher. Will a third time be the charm for Elite Power or can Gunite finally win one over in this head-to-head?

High Oak 30/1

One interesting horse at this event is High Oak, who is seemingly under the radar. William Mott is the trainer for both Elite Power and High Oak, making this a perfect betting opportunity.

Mott won this race last year with Cody’s Wish, a horse he trained, and now has another two competing. High Oak has not won though since his victory at the Saratoga Special Stakes (G2) back in 2021.

Synthesis earns some respect with his recent momentum he has gained. He is coming off of a fifth place finish at the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (G1) when he was not expected to do much (out of seven horses).

Elite Power is a perfect name for this horse. He has not lost a race since May of last year, winning eight straight races that include five graded stakes.

This will be the third time that Elite Power and Gunite battle each other, with Elite Power claiming victory twice. This will likely be another close race like it was in Vanderbilt, one that Gunite was close to winning.
