Frisco Bowl Betting Preview: UTSA Roadrunners vs. Marshall Thundering Herd

The 2023 Frisco Bowl will take place on Tuesday night when the UTSA Roadrunners face the Marshall Thundering Herd in Frisco, Texas at Toyota Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 9:00 PM ET and will air on ESPN.

 

The UTSA Roadrunners finished in 3rd place in the American Athletic Conference with a record of 8-4 while winning seven of their final eight games, however, they lost on the road against the Tulane Green Wave in the regular season finale by a score of 16-29. The Roadrunners were one of the highest-scoring teams in college football this season as they averaged 31.67 points per game and had an above-average rushing and passing offense as they averaged 174.83 rushing yards and 236 passing yards per game. 

 

The Roadrunners featured a trio of running backs on offense with Kevorian Barnes, Robert Henry, and Rocko Griffin combining for 1,689 yards and 20 touchdowns. UTSA also had a slightly above-average scoring defense that allowed an average of 24.67 points per game which was below the national average of 25.76 points per game. The UTSA Roadrunners will look to bounce back following the loss against the Tulane Green Wave when they play the Marshall Thundering Herd on Tuesday night.

 

The Marshall Thundering Herd finished the regular season with a record of 6-6 which led to a 5th-place finish in the East Division of the Sun Belt Conference and they won two of their last three games including the season finale at home against the Arkansas State Red Wolves by a score of 35-21. The Thundering Herd had one of the worst scoring offenses in college football this season as they averaged 23.25 points per game and the scoring defense wasn’t much better as they allowed an average of 28.17 points per game which was more than the national average of 25.76 points per game.

 

The Marshall Thundering Herd will look to build off the momentum following the win against the Arkansas State Red Wolves when they face the UTSA Roadrunners on Tuesday night in the Frisco Bowl.

Marshall has won two of the three games all-time and are 2-1 ATS in those matchups with the last meeting having occurred in 2018 which resulted in a 23-0 win for the Marshall Thundering Herd at home. The UTSA Roadrunners are 5-7 ATS overall and 5-5 ATS as a favorite this season while the Marshall Thundering Herd are 4-8 ATS overall and 2-5 ATS as an underdog on the year.
