Golden State Warriors vs. Utah Jazz

April 7, 2024

The Utah Jazz will travel to San Francisco, California to face the Golden State Warriors at the Chase Center with the game tipping off at 8:30 PM ET on Sunday night and will air on KJZZ and NBC Sports Bay Area.

Utah Jazz Team Preview

The Utah Jazz will miss the playoffs for the 2nd consecutive season as they enter this game with the 4th worst record in the Western Conference at 29-48 and trail the Golden State Warriors by 13 games for the final spot in the play-in tournament with only five regular season games left to go in the 2023-24 NBA season.

Utah has been one of the worst teams in the NBA since the start of February as they have compiled a record of 5-23 over that span and enter this game on a 11-game losing streak following Friday’s 102-131 loss on the road against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Jazz have also lost by an average margin of 15.36 points per game during their current losing streak. The woes for Utah this season can be attributed to their defensive play as they are allowing the 2nd most points per game in the NBA with an average of 120.82 points per game.

Utah has faced Golden State twice this season and has lost both contests including the most recent meeting by a score of 137-140 at home and has lost eight of their last ten games against the Warriors. The Utah Jazz will look to end their 11-game losing streak and their three-game losing streak in the series when they travel to face the Golden State Warriors.

Golden State Warriors Team Preview

The Golden State Warriors are once again one of the highest-scoring teams in the league this season as they enter this matchup ranked 8th in scoring in the NBA with an average of 117.83 points per game.

The dynasty for the Warriors is likely over, however, they are still likely to be in the play-in tournament this season as they enter this contest in 10th place in the Western Conference with a record of 42-35 and have a five-game lead over the Houston Rockets for the final spot in the play-in tournament with only five games left to play in the regular season.

Golden State saw their six-game winning streak come to an end on Friday following a 106-108 loss on the road against the Dallas Mavericks. The Warriors have dominated the series against the Jazz winning eight of the last ten and have won by an average margin of 3 points per game in those contests while having won both meetings this season and have won by an average margin of 12.5 points per game in those matchups.

The Golden State Warriors will look to extend their winning streak to four games in the series against the Jazz when they host Utah on Sunday night.

Odds and Series Trends

BookMaker has the Golden State Warriors listed as 11.5-point favorites at home against the Utah Jazz on Sunday night. The two meetings this season between the two teams have been decided by an average margin of 12.5 points per game, however, the last ten games in the series have been decided by an average margin of 3 points per game.

Game Pick

Despite having won eight of the last ten games in the series, Golden State has only won by an average margin of 3 points per game in those contests and only won by 3 points in the most recent meeting this season with a 140-137 win on the road. As a result, I am buying the .5 point and taking the points with the Utah Jazz when they travel to face the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night.
