The NFL Network will have a tripleheader on Saturday. It will be capped off in the 3rd game when the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Jacksonville, Florida, to face the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium, with the matchup scheduled to start at 7:00 PM ET on Saturday night.
For the majority of the beginning of the 2023 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs looked as though they would be an average team on the season as they lost their first game of the season against the Detroit Lionson Opening Night of the 2023 NFL season and even though they started the season 6-1 three of the six wins were decided by 8 points or less. The Chiefs struggled down the stretch to end the regular season after starting 6-1, Kansas City would lose five of the next eight games before ending the regular season on a two-game winning streak.
Kansas City had the luxury of playing in one of the worst divisions in the AFC, the AFC West, in which three of the four teams would finish under .500, which would also give the Chiefs their 8th straight AFC West Division Championship. The Chiefs would also go on to win the Super Bowl after defeating the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round, the Bills in the AFC Divisional round, and the Ravens in the AFC Championship before winning their 2nd consecutive Super Bowl by beating the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 25-22 in Super Bowl LVIII.
Kansas City had a solid but not spectacular record at covering the spread last season. It finished the regular season 9-7-1 ATS overall, including 6-3-1 ATS on the road.
The Jacksonville Jaguars looked like they were well on their way to winning the AFC South after starting the 2024 NFL Season with a record of 8-3. The Jaguars would lose five of their final six games to finish with a record of 9-8, which would cause them to miss the playoffs last season after making the playoffs the previous season.
The Jaguars are one of the most talented teams in the NFL but are also one of the more inconsistent teams, and if they learn to be consistent this season, they could be one of the more successful teams in the 2024 NFL season. The Jaguars enter the regular season with an over/under win total of 8.5 games, a total they should easily surpass, and, based on Vegas odds, are projected to finish in 2nd place in the AFC South, only behind the Houston Texans. Jacksonville finished the regular season last year with a 9-8 ATS record, including 3-5 ATS at home.
Kansas City has won eight consecutive games against Jacksonville and has outscored the Jaguars by an average of 28.75 to 15.25 points per game in those matchups while covering the spread in six of those eight games. The Chiefs have covered the spread in four of their last five games against the Jaguars and six of their previous seven road games in the series.
The Kansas City Chiefs are once again on the short list of Super Bowl contenders and have the best odds of winning the Super Bowl for the 3rd consecutive season. The Chiefs are on an eight-game winning streak in the series and have also dominated the series ATS as they have covered the spread in six of the eight games in their winning streak and the spread in six of their last seven road games. As a result, I am taking the moneyline for the Kansas City Chiefs at -110 when they travel to face the Jacksonville Jaguars for week 1 of the 2024 NFL Preseason on Saturday night.
