LA Lakers vs. New Orleans Pelicans

February 9, 2024

The red-hot and streaking New Orleans Pelicans get set to clash against the Los Angeles Lakers Friday night inside crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, CA. They tip it off at 10:30 pm late on the West Coast.  Bookmaker has installed the Lakers as a very slim 1-point favorite in this one.

New Orleans Pelicans Betting Preview

The Pelicans are atop the Southwest Standings and they are several games ahead of the Dallas Mavericks, who have played better of late. New Orleans is a team that wants to get the ball inside and they try to dominate in the paint. They do that with their young and strong power forward Zion Williamson, who is netting 21 points per game to go along with 5.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists per contest.

Williamson is the engine that makes this offense go, and he also can defer and look to teammate Brandon Ingram to get involved as well. Ingram has blossomed into a budding star and he is contributing 21 points a night and he looks to go right to the rim. He has shown he can be much more decisive this season and when the defense collapses he can get the ball over to Williamson.

New Orleans connects on 56% from the floor, including a solid 37% from beyond the arc. They have a nice bench as well and they can always turn to them to get some solid minutes.

Los Angeles Lakers Betting Preview

The Lakers still rely on the veteran LeBron James who is still putting up some big-time numbers even though he is logging a ton of minutes and he is getting older. He is averaging 24 points in 35 minutes of action and has not shown signs of slowing down. But, the Lakers would love to lighten the offensive load for him and that is where his teammate Anthony Davis comes into play.

The 30-year-old power forward has had a nice season but he is also dealing with some issues. He is dealing with a Hip/Achilles issue and might not be available for Friday's contest. He has done a nice job of playing both ends of the floor and has hauled down 12.3 rebounds per contest this season.

The Lakers will look to try to get Williamson in early foul trouble in this one. Look for them to also push the pace and attack the basket. For the season, the Lakers connected on 56% from the floor overall, but have done a horrible job from beyond the arc. They are just hitting 30% from three-point land and they do not have the shooters to knock it down from long range if they get behind early in this one.
