St. Louis Cardinals Team Preview

The St. Louis Cardinals improved their record to one game above .500 following Monday's 7-6 win in extra inning on the road against the Miami Marlins in Game 1 of the series and have won five of their previous six games while having won by an average margin of .67 runs per game in those matchups.

The Cardinals scored seven runs, with three coming in the 8th inning, including Masyn Winn and Paul Goldschmidt scoring off a triple hit by Ivan Herrera.

St. Louis has won seven of the previous ten games in the series against Miami, however, despite having won seven of the last ten the Cardinals have been outscored by the Marlins by an average of 5.3 to 5.7 in those meetings. The St. Louis Cardinals will look to extend their winning streak to three games and get their 6th win in their last seven games when they travel to face the Miami Marlins for Game 2 of the series.

Miami Marlins Team Preview

If not for how poorly the Chicago White Sox have played this season, the Miami Marlins would be the worst team in baseball in the 2024 season. They enter Game 2 against the St. Louis Cardinals 26 games below .500 at 23-49, which puts them in last place in the NL East and gives them the worst record in the National League.

The Marlins have the 2nd worst run differential in baseball and the worst in the National League at -117 and have been outscored by their opponents this season by an average of 4.04 to 5.94 runs per game.

Following the 6-7 loss in extra innings in Game 1 of the series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Marlins have lost six games in a row and have compiled a record of 2-12 in June while having been outscored by their opponents by an average of 2.29 to 5.71 runs per game this month. Miami has outscored the Cardinals 5.7 to 5.3 in the last ten and 5.67 to 4.33 runs per game in the previous three meetings.

However, the Marlins have lost seven of the last ten and two of the previous three games in the series. On Tuesday evening, the Miami Marlins will look to end their six-game losing streak when they host the St. Louis Cardinals for Game 2 of the series.
