MLB Betting Preview: Atlanta Braves vs. Colorado Rockies

August 28, 2023

The Atlanta Braves take on the Colorado Rockies for the start of a three-game series in Colorado soon. This betting opportunity should be compelling, as the Braves continue to play great baseball.

  • Date: Game 1 on August 28, 2023 at 8:40 PM ET

  • Location: Coors Field in Denver, Colorado

Atlanta Braves Betting Preview

The Braves are coming into this series with one of the best records in the league (84-45) and fresh off of a series against the San Francisco Giants. Although they could not complete the sweep, winning two out of three, they are determined to showcase their strength.

They have been solid offensively just about everywhere you look, as they average 3.83 runs per game with a batting average of .270. They also are producing an on-base percentage of .339, while their pitchers are offering a 3.67 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP.

Bryce Elder (10-4) has a 3.39 ERA and will be on the mound for game one. In his most recent performance against the New York Mets, he looked great by only allowing one run over 5.1 innings and was able to land his second consecutive win. However, he has seen tough challenges on the road and has allowed five or more runs in three of his last four away games.

Colorado Rockies Betting Preview

The Rockies are the complete opposite in terms of their record (48-81) and recently took on the Baltimore Orioles, but lost two of three games. However, game three of that series resulted in a victory and they have a chance to secure back-to-back victories, a rare feat this month.

Their offense has averaged 4.5 runs per game and it could make a difference if the Braves have a slow start. They are able to accomplish this with a .256 batting average and a .317 on-base percentage. Their pitching staff has given up games with a 4.70 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP.

On the mound for the Rockies is Austin Gomber and he carries a 9-9 record and a disappointing 5.48 ERA. In his last game against the Tampa Bay Rays, he actually did a good job and held them to three runs over six innings. Gomber has arguably been their only bright spot in the pitching rotation, as he has limited opponents to three runs or less in eight of his last ten starts on the mound.

Game Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick

The latest odds from MyBookie reveal that the Atlanta Braves are moderately favored to win in game one. According to market analysis, the Braves have a 72.2 percent chance to be victorious on the road.

  • Colorado Rockies: +195

  • Atlanta Braves: -238

The Braves are leading the NL East by at least 12.5 games over the next team in line (Philadelphia Phillies) and have no risk of losing their spot. The Rockies are in bad shape all around and could score runs to make things interesting.
