MLB Betting Preview: Detroit Tigers vs. Minnesota Twins
August 16, 2023
The Detroit Tigers wrap up their brief two-game set against the Minnesota Twins with the finale of the set Wednesday afternoon with an early start time inside Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They toss out the first pitch at 1:10 pm. The Twins took Tuesday's opener, 5-3.
The Twins are -185 in Wednesday's clash.
Minnesota Twins Betting Preview
The Twins (63-58) lead the AL Central and once again have quietly put together a solid season, not a great one. But in a weak division they always seem to be in contention to win the division or for a wild card spot in the American League. They have won three straight overall, including Tuesday's win.
On offense, they are led by slick fielder shortstop Carlos Correa, who has cracked 15 home runs this season while batting .230 on the season. The Twins have six players who have hit ten or more home runs this season.
They will send out Kenta Maeda who has a mark of 3-7 and has not pitched well this season. He gives up a ton of runs and his ERA sits at 3.97 on the season. He has dropped two out of his last three decisions. Maeda needs to have a solid start and settle in early on if the Twins hope to win this one.
Detroit Tigers Betting Preview
The Tigers (53-66) have done a good job of hanging around in the AL Central and they are within shouting distance of a wild card spot as they sit in third place overall in the division nine games behind the front-running Twins. They have dropped two straight and three of four.
They did take three of four from the Twins about a week ago.
The Tigers have had an up and down season and they do not have a ton of offense to build upon or rely on. They do not have a ton of home runs hitters either, as first baseman Spencer Torkelson leads all players on the club with 18 home runs. He has also driven in 63 runs while hitting just around .220 on the season. He has to do a better job with his average and is on pace to hit 25 plus homers in 2023.
Detroit will send out 24-year-old Reese Olson who sports a disappointing 2-5 record to go along with an ERA of 4.45. He did win his last start so he does come into this game with some confidence and the Tigers will need him to give them a quality start of at least six-plus innings.
Game Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick
