The New York Yankees are trying to make a late-season push into the playoffs as they continue their three-game set against the Detroit Tigers in the finale of their clash Thursday evening inside Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. They toss out the first pitch at 7:05 pm. New York has shown some signs of life as they have won five in a row. 

New York is -158 in Thursday's finale as they look to make a wild push into October. 

The Yankees (70-69) have been one of the most frustrating teams to not only bet on but to try to figure out as all of a sudden they are starting to come on late. They were left for dead a couple of weeks ago, and the main key for them was to try to figure out a way to climb back to .500 which they did on Tuesday night thanks to a 5-1 win over the Tigers. They entered this series coming off a very impressive sweep over the defending World Series champs in the Houston Astros, which has been a thorn in the Yankees' side for years. 

On offense, the Yankees are led by DH Giancarlo Stanton who hit his 400 career home run in Tuesday's win. On Wednesday night, he ended 0-3 in New York's 4-3 win. 

But, with that win they pushed their record to one win over .500 at 70-69. 

They will toss out 30-year-old Carlos Rodon who sports a 2-4 mark to go along with a 5.70 ERA, He did get a win his last time out which was against the Astros as he allowed two runs -- all earned -- on five innings of work. He fanned four in the win. 

The Tigers (63-75) looked like they had something going early on in the season, but they quickly faded after the All-Star break. They are not a contender in the AL Central as they have found themselves in third place behind the front-running Minnesota Twins by nine games. The Tigers have dropped two straight. 

They do not have much of an offense and they do not have a ton of power in their lineup to speak of, but they have been able to win a couple of games here and there. They are led by 

slugging first baseman Spencer Torkleson who has cracked a career-high 25 home runs to go along with 72 runs and a batting average of .230. 

They will toss out Eduardo Rodriguez who sports a mark of 10-7 to go along with an ERA of 3.11. He has fanned 123 hitters in 124.1 innings of work. 

New York is 4-1 in their last five games and 4-1 in their last five games against the number. The Yankees are 35-33 in their road games against the spread and the totals have gone over in one of their last five games. The totals have also gone over in 32 of their last 70 games at home.
