MLB Betting Preview: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants
September 24, 2023
One of the best rivalries in baseball will take center stage on Sunday night when the Los Angeles Dodgers travel to take on the San Francisco Giants for game four of a four-game series win which the Dodgers have won two of the first three including Saturday’s 7-0 win in game three. Will the Dodgers take the series 3-1 or will the Giants split the series 2-2 with a win in game four? Let’s take a look at how these teams have fared this season.
Barring a miracle the San Francisco Giants will miss the playoffs this year following a poor showing in September in which San Francisco has compiled a record of 7-14 including a 0-7 shutout loss in game three of the series against the Dodgers which was also the 12
th
shutout loss this season for the Giants.
Los Angeles has clinched the NL West title this season making it the 2
nd
consecutive season winning the division, however, the Dodgers will also surpass their over/under win total of 96.5 wins they had entering the season as they only have to win two more games to do so. The Dodgers have compiled a record of 12-9 in September and are coming off a 7-0 win against the San Francisco Giants. Two of the runs for the Los Angeles Dodgers came in the 3
rd
inning when Max Muncy and Mookie Betts scored off a double hit by J.D. Martinez.
BookMaker has the Los Angeles Dodgers listed as -215 money line favorites at home against the San Francisco Giants for game four of the series on Sunday night. The teams have split the last ten games in the series while San Francisco has outscored Los Angeles by an average of 5 to 4.6 runs per game in those contests while the Dodgers have won two of the last three games by an average margin of 2.67 runs per game in those matchups.
The Giants will send Ryan Walker to the mound while the Dodgers will send Lance Lynn to the mound for game four of the series on Sunday night. Lynn is 12-11 this season with a 5.92 ERA while recording 181 strikeouts while Walker is 4-3 on the year with an ERA of 3.20 and has recorded 71 strikeouts.
Ryan Walker is 0-1 with two no-decisions in his last three starts this season while allowing seven runs and recording five strikeouts in those matchups with his last start coming on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks in which Walker allowed four runs while striking out two in a no-decision.
In his last three starts this season, Lance Lynn is 2-1 while allowing 13 runs and recording 10 strikeouts in those starts with his last start coming at home against the Detroit Tigers in which Lynn allowed three runs and struck out six batters in a win.
Los Angeles enters this game with a better record and has been the better team most recently in the series, winning two of the last three games. The Dodgers have won by an average margin of 2.67 runs per game over the last three games in the series. As a result, I am taking the run line for the Los Angeles Dodgers at -1.5 on BookMaker for this matchup on Sunday night.
Spooky Express Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers Run Line -1.5 (-110)
